It is a stupid question though really because you answered it yourself....

If it says one thing and you do another, then you aren't following the instructions. They were written for a reason. Not much you can do about it now. You must have been in a lot of pain to take that many, but it wasn't a very clever thing to do.

NHS Direct: 0845 4647

Phone them and explain your situation.

It would be silly for anyone to say if they did know, because someone who is depressed could use the information. But it depends on different things.

I don't think that if i was going to commit suicide, I would just take what someone said on the internet and match it, I would simply take as many as I could, but everyone to their own.

OP: You're not going to have done any real harm to yourself. If you have, you'd probably know about it by now. Just for goodness' sake don't take any more. The guidelines are there, but they're well under what is considered a 'fatal threshold'.

I doubt that people on here are qualified doctors, so I'd ring NHS Direct to make sure

Meh, I took 16 ibuprofen in 14 hours and it says not to take more than... hmm hold on..... yeah, "Maximum Daily Dosage: 6 tablets in a 24 hour period". It's fine. Over the counter meds are very, very conservative when they state the "maximum dose", so they don't end up getting sued. These ibuprofen pills are only 200mg, so 6 is 1200mg. It's safe enough to take 3000+mg of ibuprofen in 24 hours. Also, you'll notice that the dosages are for "people aged over 12", and the max dose for a 12 year old is going to be lower than a fully grown adult.

I've actually taken 8 before in one go...with alcohol, (which apparently makes it worse) with some intention behind that....(I think) but was okay. (my friend stopped me from taking anymore)

Yes, if you take them all at once. 6000mg of paracetamol spread out over 12+ hours is highly unlikely to do any damage.

As you said, that is your thoughts on the matter and you are using logic to make that decision.

You don't always get clear symptoms with an OD, especially if you are already feeling ill.

I thought Ibuprofen isn't harmful becasue it is an anti-inflamatory. Wheras anadin extra contains asprin (300mg) and paracetomol(200mg) in one tablet?

Interesting randomness: Apparently you're MORE likely to do damage if you take loads of paracetamol with just water than if you take them with alcohol. Something to do with the alcohol competing with the paracetamol for use of the liver, resulting in the paracetamol going through your system more slowly and therefore doing less damage. Hmmm.

Kind of relevent to the subject... if you take some ibruprofen, then a few hours later take paracetemol, is that a bad thing? Should you stick with one type of painkiller, or does it not really matter?

Noo..not really. it's just whenever I have read about overdoses there always seems to be mixed messages. Some saying 'NOOOO!!! you can't do that you must await certain death' and others are like 'meh, you'll be fine - i've taken more'.

I suppose the replys are going to be no different. *shrugs*
