appendicitis worries

Im really worried i might have appendicitis; i only realised last night that i might have it, and for about a week now i have had a few syptoms and stupidly not thought anything of it. I have a dull pain in my abdomen just above my right hip, but it comes and goes and sometimes becomes a bit worse when getting up from sitting, but other times i cannot feel it at all. Ive also been ill since last tuesday but always presumed it was just a cold, its kind of not quite a cold and not quite a fever. I didnt see any connection between the two until i looked up about appendicitis on the net and it said one of the symptoms is having a fever. but im not sure if what i have is even a fever. What should i do? do you think it could just be something else complely unrelated or should i go to the doctors? Has anyone else here had appendicitis who can help me?
im really scared.

diagnosing yourself on the internet is never really a good idea, i could look on google and appear have about 90 tropical diseases :p:
basically if youre concerned see a doctor who will be able to tell you if you require treatment.
If you had appendicitis, you'd know about it.

True - appendicitis is absolute agony. Your appendix might be "grumbling" - that is, be a little infected and causing you trouble, but that's nothing to worry about, you just need to rest and get over it. Alternatively you might have eaten something off and have constipation, that seems more likely. If you're really worried, go to the doctor.

appendacitus is absolutly agonising, if you can't feel it sometimes I thik you're safe. Not so dramatic, but have you considered indegestion?

I had appendicitis. I'd just got back off my D of E expedition, and thought I had food poisoning (due to the camping cooking), but the pain (in the right of the abdomen) got worse and worse. I couldn't sleep, couldn't drink/eat and I cried from the *agony* all the way to the doctors, around the hospital. That's how bad the pain is.

They gave me pain relief straight away and operated that evening. You're right to be concerned because if your appendix bursts you have much more of a chance of dying as the infected juices spread out into your insides. On the other hand, it sounds like you're not screaming yet so you're probs ok. However, just go to the doctor to check as there is more than likely to be something wrong with you.
