The Student Room Group

dentist

Hi

I think I need to go to a dentist as I think i need a filling. The thing is that I am not from the UK and I've never been to a dentist over here. I have always done my teeth in my country( we have good dentists) but I forgot to go in this summer and was unfortunate to get the pain just when i came over.I am a university student in London. Is dental care for students covered by the NHS? I looked at the NHS website but it doesn't say anything about students. If it isn't covered do you have some idea how expensive it is?

Thank you
When you came to your uni, didn't you register with the local dentist or anything?

Anyways, if I remember correctly, the standard fee for a filling is around £15 I think (OK, that may be a little too cheap, but I think that's what my local NHS dentist charges). I'm not sure if students are covered, but it's worth going to the local NHS dentist and asking them.

If you are from a country that is a member of the European Union then you should be able to apply for a European Health Insurance Card which I think will entitle you to certain healthcare services in other EU countries. It may mean you pay the fees here but then you can be reimbursed when you go back to your home country.

Google "European Health Insurance Card"
