Vet med at nottingham

I've heard that Nottingham like you to have physics.

I haven't taken it at AS/A2 level and i only got a B at GCSE.

Would i be wasting my time applying, even if i get the AAB that i need in other subjects?

Entry Requirements for the BVM BVS with integrated BVMedSci (D100 5-Year programme):

GCSES:

* Minimum of 5 grade As to include Chemistry, Biology and Physics (or science double award).
* Minimum of grade B in Maths and English Language.
* Grade A at AS Level Physics can compensate for achieving grade B at GCSE.

A levels:

* Minimum of grades AAB, in Chemistry, Biology (or Human Biology) and a third subject (excluding only General Studies and Critical Thinking) at A Level (A2).
* Chemistry and Biology must be passed at grade A.
* Taking a fourth A level will not increase your chances of being offered a place at this school

Hmm, so yeah, you'd be just below their entry requirements (since they want an A at GCSE and you have a B). It might be worthwhile considering a different uni to apply to instead, though if everything else is good enough, and you really want to apply to Nottingham then it's probably worth a try anyway.

yeah i kind of have to apply there because i don't want to go to scotland or london and that only leaves me with Liverpool, Bristol and Nottingham.

Applying for uni is so depressing :|

depressin?! Its rlly excitin i think! You should apply anyways..take uni entry requirements with a pinch on salt! I got a place at nottingham with ABB at alevel. Maybe ring them up and talk to one of the admission staff? They are all SO SO friendly and helpful. good luck!

o that would b the best to get in with ABB...

haha i was very lucky! I had Liverpool as my firm choice and Nottingham as my insurance. The vets at the practice i worked at had all gone to Liverpool and all told me how they knew lots of people that were there with ABB...bu when results came i was rejected because to many people had achieved AAB and there were no places left to give to people with lower grades.
Nottingham was my hero and I got a call of the admissions person saying i had a place at Nottingham. So very lucky!
Try as hard as you can to achieve AAB but if you dont then maybe youll get lucky! I may be seein you next year in nottingham!!

The vet school are really realllllyyy laid back so I wouldn'y worry about it, just ring them and ask if you're worried but if you're good at interview and have a good personal statement and work expereicen, a tiny thing like getting a B at physics wont be a major thing. Good luck, nottingham is ace.

just got the vet school newletter thing they emailed everyone...1500 applicants for veterinary this year at notts.....and 500 interviews....the numbers have risen a fair bit the last few years for vet med in general...why is this??

I thought the number of places to applicants was improving over the last few years in most vet schools, don't know if it's nottingham that seems to be getting more popular with each year because people are seeing that it is trustworthy and has good facilities and the people there are really enjoying it etc. I'm sure at my bristol interview she said it was getting slightly easier to get into vet school, but it varies slightly every year. Apparently, don't know if this is fact, but just under 80% of people who have applied for vet med have applied to nottingham this year, so maybe that's why the applicants seem to have gone up this year, sure it was only 1200 applied here last year.

Apparently it was 85% who applied applied to Nott'm  I think we had roughly 1/12 chance before interview of getting a place, then at interview it had gone to 1/4 by that stage.

Anyhoo, I know loads of people here who did maths not Physics! Don't worry about it!

I'm currently studying in year 11 in an international school in Thailand (too young to be thinking about unis? ><) I'm really nervous about the upcoming IGCSE exams! >< I'm afraid i will not be able to get good grades enough to enter VetMed at Nottingham, even though its just IGCSE ==' So I would like to know what you guys got for both GCSEs & A levels and how your personal statements went.. how much work experience you did, how is the course and that kind of stuff! It would be very kind of you ^^ Thank you~

If you do Mathematics, it should be able to compensate for the Physics. More than anything, those are guidelines. Nottingham doesn't really impose very stringent requirements on its courses, so I'm sure you'll be alright.

I was there for my friend's sister's interview on Wednesday. Sutton Bonnington is a nice little campus and the new buildings there are very good. I was impressed.
