Ford Fiesta or Seat Ibiza???

So looking to buy a new car as mine is coming up to be 2 years old.

I just cant seem to decide between these 2 cars. Im looking at either Fiesta Zetec Climate or Ibiza Sport. Has to be a diesel.

I just wandered if anyone has/had one of these cars to give me their opinion because at the moment I really cant decide!

Thanks

which engined ibiza sport? theres a 1.9 tdi and a 100ps 1.9 tdi (less power, lower insurance group etc) and what fiesta climate? (think they do a 1.4 and 1.6?)

I'd go for the ibiza personally, but have no experience of newer fiesta diesels. a 2000 diesel fiesta I drove was as bland as a pancake.. ibiza 1.9 (100ps) is a lower group than the fiesta, and correct me if im wrong, cheaper.. The fiesta is much much cheaper on tax however. A friend has an ibiza, but it's a cupra petrol, so can't really comment on the ibizas! the quality and handling were above what I was expecting though..

I have the Ibiza Sport, but the petrol version. It is ten times better than the Fiesta which i was looking at when i bought my Ibiza. Honestly, go and drive an Ibiza and feel the quality of the Ibiza and then go to the Fiesta, there is no comparison. Plus, the Ibiza feels bigger and looks ten times better than the Fiesta, in red naturally.

As for the Diesel factor, there is a 1.4 petrol with 100bhp which might be more economical in the long run than the diesel due to servicing costs and high price of diesel atm. If you don't do a lot of miles, the 14 wiht 100bhp is good. However the diesel version is VERY good.

If you do a lot of miles then diesel makes sense, but they are expensive to buy and run if you don't!

Highly recommend the Ibiza, fantastic car which has never let me down and very very safe, trust me. i have tested it

Go for the Ibiza.

EDIT: If you want a good diesel and a good spec get the Ibiza FR Diesel which is 160bhp Diesel and a fantastic engine. Otherwise I would recommend the petrol...drive both and see what you prefer. The only problem with the petrol is that it has a very light clutch which takes some time to get used to as it is easy to stall if you lose concentration. However, the benefit is that through town with the clutch so light it does not give you an ache in your left leg which is horrible! There is not much about my car that i don't like, there are small niggles like the throttle can take a while to respond but again you get used to it so nothing to complain about. You are really scraping the bottle when you complain about throttle lag! It is because the Ibiza has fly by wire throttle, i.e. electronic throttle so the computer is inbetween you and the engine and that is the lag.

However, honestly, the Ibiza is much better than the Fiesta and you will see that as soon as you close the reassuringly heavy doors and play with the knobs which feel like they will last forever.

Agreed. And I find the seats in the Fiesta unbearably uncomfortable. No idea why specifically, but I was in it for 3 hours on a long run, and I couldn't get comfortable the whole way.

On the subject of servicing, I was under the impression that Diesels were cheaper to service? This the experience of my family anyway (Vauxhalls and Fords). You (usually) have longer intervals and there should be less labour as theres no plugs to change. They used to be cheaper to tax as well, but this may have changed. Diesel is only a couple of pence more expensive atm (when I last fuelled up, it was 2p anyway) and if your getting an extra 10 or 20 mpg, the maths works. However, then theres the extra purchase cost to. Really, you can argue the toss on this 'til the cows come home.

I still come down on the side of Diesel though .

EDIT: Gb,

According to 4Car, theres no 100hp 1.4 avaliable now, only 85hp. This makes the Diesel faster and more economical. And a demon for overtaking . The Diesel comes in at £1600 more for the same model. I'd still buy the Diesel

I deffo need a diesel...I have a 65 mile round trip to work everyday.

So what engine am I better off getting? Im hopefully going to test drive one on thursday so will have a better idea.

Any decent extras I should look at? Im a sucker for all the extras!

100hp TDI. Good blend of power and economy.

Get the luxury pack 1, comes with MP3 CD Player w/ipod input, steering wheel radio controls, height adjustable seats, electro-chromatic rear view mirror (really useful) and something else i can't remember of the top of my head.

Get the diesel then if the 100bhp petrol is no longer availiable, the VAG diesels are fantastic but I am sure servicing is more so just check. But if you are doing that many miles, it really does not matter. Get the Seat Ibiza Diesel, but you might like to look at the FR diesel as that has an excellent spec for not much more than the Ibiza Sport Diesel i don't think...

My last 4 cars have been Seats and they're great cars.

Definitely go for the ibiza. Although I have the petrol, which isn't what you are looking at, i would still advise the ibiza. It really is a fantastic car.

Well I'd say go for the Fiesta just because I have one :p: I dont have the Climate though, I have the Zetec S Tdci. So I have no idea what the Climate is like

Obviously Ive never driven a Seat so I cant comment on them!

Out of the two, would go for the Ibiza, recent facelifted ones look great, we had a 1.4 Sport for a while this year and it seemed very well specced inside too and everything felt good quality/well made, but would choose the diesel over the 1.4 petrol any day, would love the 130bhp TDi if I had the chance. Ibiza would be a more sporty drive than the Fiesta, I would expect the suspension is much firmer, if that's what you want.

Its a very sporty drive, has MacPherson (sp) struts, most amazing suspension set up, it is quite firm and round town it can be quite harsh on bad roads, however i would rather have this than a car that feels like it should be on water, i.e a boat and wallowy
