For my planning I based the essay around the idea that Golding uses the book as a message and 'thought experiment' if you like to demonstrate that mankind is inately evil. I also compared how various characters/groups represent different forms of social and political traits (piggy: rational thought, Jack: Autocracy ect.).

    I got an A* btw

Well Golding's whole point of writing LotF was to make a more realistic version of his favourite adventure desert island book that was 'Coral Island', which would have what he described as "Mankind's essential illness", which is man's potential to carry out evil actions innately. This results in all of the themes of savagery, etc.

Furthermore, he used LotF as a microcosm of the society in the 1950s, where each character represents a different area of society, especially post second WW2. For example, Ralph represents civilisation and leadership qualities, whilst Jack represents savagery and totalitarianism and Piggy represents outsiders who were prejudiced against for there 'different' characteristics.
