My "friend" copied my personal statement!!!

Well a few weeks ago I was tweaking my personal statement at school with my boyfriend, when my sneaky friend creeped up behind us and read it!

My boyfriend just told me that he has completely coppied my opening, only changing it from psycho to medicine!!

What a b******!!

Its really annoying cos my teacher said it is a really good opening...

Anyway, I think he is handing it in today (applying for medicine), and I am worried that universities will think I copied him!

Do they check people's statements with others that are applying the same year? Also I think he is applying to some same unis as me.

I really don't like him right now, so tell me what I should do please

Have you spoken to your teachers about it?
I really dont think he is right.
because when university look through your ucas personal statement and also his at the same time, they will not know who copies whose personal statment. I think maybe the university will refuse both your application!!!:frown: :frown:

Will your statements be read by the same person or people? No.

Nobody will notice that two in a few hundred thousand statements are similar.

What you do with him is up to you, I try very hard not to get involved in domestics.
oh my god. that is sooo mjean of him. dump him, then grass him up. then watch as he gets rejected.
(or something to that effect, anyway)

we are applying for different things though.

Should I get a teacher to make him change it??
He will prob lie he thought of it himself...

I am NOT changing mine though!

Also, we are applying for different subjects, so different admin tutors~?

You could tell your teachers, but they could just as easily believe you copied him if he says so. If I were you, I'd tell him to change it or you'll get him in the night.

Don't be a prick.

The statements will be read by different tutors and it won't be noticed.

Your friend sounds like a **** though.
Aw. It must be annoying but I doubt a lot would happen in terms of you getting in trouble for it being similar cos you are applying for completely different courses that will be in different departments in the university therefore read by different admissions tutors/members of the admissions team. Tell him he smells.

Talk to your referee...in the end he/she's the one who sends it to ucas...and he/she can send it back to your friend to fix it.
jus tell your head of year so they cna't apply with it!

The similarity/identicality of the statements will be detected. That's why UCAS insist on electronic submission now, such that they can detect fraud. A computer checks statements both against each other and a database of previous statements/internet examples etc.

I think the first person to submit the statement will probably be in the clear and the second person will get detected as a fraud and punished accordingly.

I'd still use my opening but I'd cover my ass and report this to a teacher alongside the person who told you. If possible choose someone who won't do anything right now but could back you up if and WTSHTF.

This is important stuff and the antiplagiarism measures being used this year won't depend on admin tutors noticing similarities. It would suck if both those statements were checked and the other 'friend' really had used a lot.
well whatever you do, do it fast cos the medical deadline for applications is early next week...so make sure you sort him out before he hands it in and you can't do anything!

Your teacher saw your opening before he had copied yours, so hopefully that teacher will realise you were the one to write it first.

If this is true I am CERTAINLY telling my teacher.

I worked so hard on my statement, and he is just a lazy arse.
I think I would be doing the world a favour.. he would be the kind of doctor to lazy to remember he left a scalple inside you, then sew you back up.
i'm bored of this now.... jus tell your referee!

Meow! haha. I hope he changes it though, or else that would be very messed up.
