Catered at Cardiff

Hey, I had previously had Cardiff down as my favourite uni choice for my 2008 entry, but I have just read that they dont do catered accomidation for Males!
I was wondering why this is, also they mentioned something called part catered, can someone explain what that means?

Sorry for being so uninformed, any help is appriciated.

Senghennyd Hall do a part catered option- this means that they provide dinner for you, but you get your own brekkie/ lunch.
The kitchens in the uni residences are all really good, going self-catered really isn't a problem. At least you get to eat what you want when you want then. Good practice for the second year too!
Do they just not do it for males? Or is it males and females?

No.
There are only 2 catered halls- Senghennyd Hall which is part catered and mixed or Aberdare Hall which is females only and fully catered.

Oh right, so Part Catered would still allow you to eat relatively well in the evening, just mean you make your own breakfast. Does anyone here do part catered and how do they find it, thanks for all the help guys!

From what I've heard it's not great, and quite limited in terms of choice, but it's a free meal. I've found the effort involved in walking to the restaurant is too high compared to the walk to my kettle with a pot noodle.

Not a free meal though really, I assume that the accomidation is more expensive to allow for the part caterered service.
Am I right?

Well for me it was included in the price but I assume you can take off the meal option if you want. I don't know how much it is.

The evening meal is fine to be honest, there's almost always fish, then a meat and then a vegetarian option. Every now and then they get something really wrong but on the whole it's edible. There's a good salad bar and vegetables, so if you really didn't like the proper meals you'd still eat well.

The restaurant is a 5min walk over a bridge. You get pretty used to it. I am just glad to always know I've got a meal waiting for me in the evenings, and obviously no - it's not free, it's included in the price of the accommodation but it's not a lot more.

I have only actually been over to the restaurant once and there were queues out the door. Is it always like that?

So is it a problem only being part catered rather than full? Or are there some advantages?

Gordon Hall is part catered too.

Part catered means that you have a technically free, nutritional(ish) meal waiting for you in the evenings, and your accommodation would cost £2,880 in Gordon Hall, when self catered in Talybont South where I am is £2,650. So the accommodation is dirt cheap (IMO) in most cases. Senghennydd Hall costs the same as Gordon Hall.
