Sounds like your not putting it in at the right angle. It should be aimed at the small of the back - generally. But follow the walls.

Oh and make sure your completely relaxed. It helps soo much.
if you're having this much trouble maybe you should stick to pads. I much prefer pads myself to be honest.

It's also painful even putting in a Mini tampax

I do get heavy Periods & thought that would make it easier to insert Tampax.

I would go along with PinkMobilePhone. Just use pads. They might not be the nicest to use but they are the easiest and healthiest to use.

yeh my periods used to be super heavy aswell. I used to use 3 night time pads all stuck ontop of each other in a sort of staggered formmation lol.

You've probably just got the angle wrong. Relax, and gently adjust the angle to try to get it to go in (but don't force it).

Or maybe try some non-applicator tampons, like Lil-Lets. I find Tampax to be absolutely awful anyway, and applicators can often over-complicate things.

I find non applicator tampons much easier to use. Sometimes it can depend on the day of your period and how heavy your flow is as to how easily it'll go in.
Try not to worry if you can't get it first time - you'll just tense up and make it harder for yourself. I'm sure everyone has problems to start

Don't worry I had this problem for years too! I was advised to stick my finger up first to open it up, and that finally worked! Gross but true, try if you are desperate... others have said aim towards the back which is true, but dont overshoot it either!xxxx

depending on your 'stance' kinda thing can determine whether its difficult or easy..(e.g. sitting on the toilet can be easiest way, relaxed) if you're trying for the first time im sure you're just tense and you just need to get the knack of it. sometimes it can be difficult to get them in even after years of using them, id try them when you're on a heavy period, so (not to be too gross nd graphic) you have like the blood to glide it in.. as someone else said applicator tampons can be more harm than good lol, i used them once and really wasnt impressed.. lil-lets for the win. pads really do make your period soo ****. keep trying, when i first tried i thought it was the most uncomfortable thing ever...then i actually began inserting them properly and used them ever since.

The first time I tried using Tampons I had this problem and just gave up because having failed a couple of times I was too tense and scared of doing it wrong to try again. I then tried again a year or two later and managed it without any problem, and find using them with pads at the same time a life-saver for my heavy periods.

I would suggest waiting until your period has finished, then explore around inside a bit more with a finger so you can feel what your doing. Learn where exactly and what direction you need to push the Tampon in.
Just don't insert a tampon when you're not on your period.
try using the compact ones as i used to have this issue for ages, then i tried the compact ones and becasue they are made of plastic they slide much easier both inside you and along each other, they are also smaller too which i felt made a big difference. I cant use the normal ones now, and they are like an intermediate between none applicator ones.
just relax and aim backwards and slightly upwards. It may take a while to figure the right angle but it really is worth persevering with.
God no, you don't have to stick to towels just because tampons aren't working after a couple of goes. It takes a bit of practise.

You're probably trying to insert it at the wrong angle. As others have said, it goes up and backwards at an angle. If you feel like you're pushing against a brick wall, you're probably trying to push it into the wall :p: Make sure you're relaxed and not feeling rushed, and just keep trying, but if it's not happening after a couple of goes, try again a bit later or the next day.

If you're not squirmish about your bits, you might find it easier to use a non applicator tampon and your fingers. Or I think they do some tampons with lube that you could try.
I have a load of trouble too usually. I give up often and just use a pad.

Pads aren't nice to use....... Try sticking with it and you will be able to use them no problem. Can't say i've ever had trouble with them, or heard of anybody who has. Applicator ones are best, not as messy and more hygenic. Just open it fully and then insert like a syringe type action. Oh and you are trying this when you are on aren't you? Maybe you're not lubricated, if you wipe down there then maybe it's too dry.

Also, tampax have a website and incude instructions in the packet. Ask your mum to give you a hand (maybe not literally) It shouldn't be a problem though, maybe talk to a doctor if you can't speak to your mum??

I'm having trouble inserting Tampax.

I'm using Tampax with Applicators. I can get the Tampax in,but i can't push the Applicator up. Feels like i'm pushing against a brick wall.

What am i doing wrong ? I tried using Mini's,but still can push the applicator up. Sometimes i waste 5 tampax, trying to get it up.

Anyone got any ideas what i could be doing wrong ?

It sounds as though the problem is actually getting the tampon out of the applicator rather than getting it in at all. Is that right? If so then the best way is to practise doing it by holding the tampon gently, not squeezing it tightly so that the thing won't move. See how much pressure is required to get the tampon to move out of the applicator. It shouldn't take very much force.

Sometimes they can be a bit awkward and are difficult to get out of the applicator. Before using it, practise pushing the tampon almost completely out of the applicator and then use the string to pull it back in. That helps to get it moving. Repeat a couple of times until you are happy it is moving freely then try inserting it. The best time is when you are quite heavy until you get used to it.

The other things suggested here, such as aiming at an angle also help. It is not supposed to go vertically but more at a slight angle. Check the leaflet as well for more instructions.
Ahhh just use pads. I was considering starting to use tampons but really cant be bothered to faff around with all that jazz.

Watch this.

If she's able to get it out of the applicator, why would she want to pull it back in? :s-smilie:

She is practising outside of her body to make sure that she has the technique correct prior to using it!
