Anyone live at home with their family?

Im wondering if these house noises are normla, I know its a lot worse if you live in uni, but for those who live at home do you get woken up like 2 - 4 times a night by your dad turning a door handle loudly to go to the tolilet or whatever? He only goes to bed at 1am and by then im asleep so get woken up when he goes to bed (i have my own room too), then about 2 am when he goes to the toilet and 4 am when he gets ready for work.

When im trying to study in the evening 8 pm - 10pm my mum usually has her TV on in her bedroom next door and the noise bugs me when im trying to think. I don't have any brothers or sisters so can imagine they would be hell of a lot worse.

Is it normal to be woken up ever night by the sound of people going to the loo though lol? Or am I being over sensitive?
A nuclear explosion has to take place next door for me to wake up.

I don't have that problem! They're just especially loud or you're a very light sleeper. For the problem of being woken up, invest in some earplugs?

They hurt my ears lol, don't your family have to walk past your room etc?
I don't really have that problem but I live up the stairs in the loft lol so well away from any other family members!
Get earplugs. My room is next to the main common room at uni where parties happen every night and it drives me insane so i'm off to get earplugs tomorrow and will hopefully sleep for the first time in a month tomorrow eve!
I don't see the problem to be honest. What's changed since you started studying? surely if was that noisy before you became a student?

After all, it's their house, they can be as noisy as they like.

Whats your point? Im guessing your parents had little respect for you.
My point is, it's unreasonable to expect them to tip toe around, just not to disturb you.

I have a great respect for my parents and they treat me the same in return. I won't clatter around while they're in bed, and they don't when I'm in bed - it's called mutual respect. But, I don't expect them to not make a sound just because I'm trying to study - houses are lived in, people make noise.

lol thats whats changed Ive started studying. Not sure if I annoy them in other ways but I try not to, for eg I never have my music loud always use my earphones so it doesn't disturb my mum when she studies. I don't agree with the last sentance though, I mean when I have my own house and kids I won't feel entitled to make as much noise as I like when they are studying:confused:
That's your choice for when you can say that. But, it's their house at the moment, and you're under their roof.

My room at uni is between two bathrooms, with thin walls. I can actually hear people urinating, although I usually manage to filter it out. Usually doesn't wake me up though.
My kids don't wake up if I go to the toilet - but I don't flush whilst they're asleep. I wait until morning and then go in and flush.
yeah I live at home, but because our house is a resonable size I don't hear much...
Tell your mum to pipe down the tv...
I lived in uni accomodation last year and spent most of the year sleeping in ear plugs. It's easier to tell your parents to be a little quieter rather than a bunch of 18 year old party drinkers.

When I do live at home though, the toilet doesn't get flushed until the morning or if it ever does (cos i sleep across from it) it does sometimes wake me up. But I just roll over and go back to sleep. lol.

hHow about studying somewhere else? If your mum's watching TV in her room, can't you go downstairs and study in the dining room or something?

I suggest you wear ear plugs when you sleep
I suggest you empty a mug of water into her tv.
In addition spray WD40 all over the bathroom door handle.
