Babe is tacky, as is Darlin' which is particularly awful done in an essex accent.
Could be worse though, something like snugglebum.

Try having the pet name 'Pukey'.

It depends who's doing the calling, and in what situation... I wouldn't appreciate it much if my bf called me babe, but lots of my gfs do and I don't mind that at all..

Baby on the other hand is a lot better, and I felt really good the first time my bf called me that... My favourite tho is when he calls me his babygirl... dunno why, but I just love it!!

I would!!! Nevermind the sarcasm, that doesn't matter.. You should never call a girl anything like that!!

One of my patients called me "babe" the other day. And she was female. I was concerned. Mind you, in Wolverhampton (where I have the misfortune to spend some of my time) it's more a general term of affection/appreciation rather than specifically for a relationship - they use it on friends etc.

My ex used to call me babe or his personal favourite Kitten. My current tends to use all the usual traditional ones that i use, sweetie, honey, baby the only one he uses that i don't is he likes to call me angel. He has 'affectionately' named his ex, bitchwhore.

My ex also called me Kitten. He was a psycho rapist so the term now makes me shudder.

Sweetie and Honey are very common here.

I'm not fond of calling people such things, I do not mind being called them. I call friends pumpkin or hunnybuns but in a sort of patronizing/teasing way at times. Like if they tell me to do something while im already doing other stuff I go "Yes pumpkin" whether its a guy or girl ;p

I hate being called 'Babe' because it sounds so... tacky. However, my boyfriend is American (I'm German so this is a novelty to me) and he's taken to calling me 'Baby' which I sort of like.

Does anyone else get called Baby or anything similar? And what do you think of it as a term of endearment generally?

Who cares what your bf calls you?

Probably only me.

Probably only me.

Then why tell everyone else about it? The saying "get a room" springs to mind.

Mine: 'Good girl'.

(Shudder.)

I mention it only as a way of introducing a thread that asks others' opinions of their pet names. Do you have nothing better to do that write pointless replies to threads you deem pointless?

Well, I guess they're in no position to deny it.

I hate pet names and ban them in relationships.

That is almost as bad as "Stinky" :p:

I quite like 'baby', but not so keen on babe.. It does sound a little cheesy!

I mostly get called 'sweetness', which I quite like. Although for a while, in my boyfriend's contact list on his mobile, I was under the title of 'smelly girl'!
