what was pastuer in history responsible for

I need help for revisioon
he was interested in germs and how to prevent infections ?
I got full marks for my History GCSE.. but it was... 2 years ago, so forgive me.

If I recall, Pasteur and Koch were in a fairly heated "i want to discover more things before you do" race in the mid 1800s.

Pasteur was responsible for germ theory - i.e. the theory that germs are what spread diseases, rather than the previously thought miasma or bad air - and for "pasteurisation", which was the heating of milk to sterilise it against germs. Koch, on the other hand, discovered the specific bacterium that caused tuberculosis - there's a great picture of him slaying the monstrous serpent of TB, it was on the front of our textbooks, it was neat as hell.
