Why are young people so left wing?

Because young people aren't as affected by fear politics, they haven't had hope and compassion drummed out of them by reality. Also, because we're saturated in education - most young people are or recently were students - and the facts show that socialism leads to stronger economies and happier populations. We see ideologies for what they are, not the stigmas they carry (ie: ah that's communist and communism is inherently BAD)

And what does this mean for the future of politics?

How on earth does socialism contribute to a better economy. Yes, there may be more money in the state, but individual wealth plays a large part in consumerist spending thus boosting the economy far more.

Show me one successful socialist state compared to a right/centrist capitalist state.

Cuba and North Korea are both socialist and have free university tuition, free healthcare and a benefits system that doesn't punish and sanction people.
Cuba has the best Heath service in the Americas and it's free unlike in the US where people have had to sell their homes if they break their leg or need their appendix removed.
Also Cuba has the lowest crime rate in the Caribbean with none of the drugs problems and gangs seen in other carribean countries.
North Korea is very clean and virtually crime free because people are brought up to respect each other and they live like one big family. They respect public property because it's everyone's property.

North Korea also execute whole families for watching media from non-communist countries. Their streets are clean because they're empty, 70% of them died in the famine... etc etc Strong respect and community cohesion can be seen in Japan which is a fairly capitalist country; it's just a cultural thing.

Not to tight on Cuban history, most of their troubles seem to be imposed on them rather than self made though. Probably a better example!

There has been a lot of speculation about whole families been sent to gulags but how do we know that's true? It's like weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the factories actually turned out to be baby biscuit factories and no WMDs were ever found. If the west ever invaded North Korea it would be quite embarrassing if they arrived at what they thought was a concentration camp only to discover families who were playing volley ball and it was actually a holiday camp they had just bombed.
