No clue what canny solid means but since 2016 was regarded as tricky my maths teacher reckons C1 will be easier and C2 will be harder.

i can barely handle c2 as is i don't want it any harder

c1 on the other hand i don't care it's usually straight forward just sometimes a lot of work for (comparatively) not a lot of marks

OOOO kids the exam is tomorrow how are we all feeling?

Does anyone have the 2016 c1 paper? I can't find it

Both C1 and C2 are relatively foundation compared to C3 and C4, you should ideally find them both straight forward. The C1 exam was hard last year compared to all years before it imo and teacher's opinions. Be warned :P

The only thing not straight forward is the ridiculous grade boundaries they put on, so any silly mistakes and your chance of an A are diminished

I just can't seem to get the right answer for this question:

A has co-ordinates (7,7) and the line l has equation x + 3y = 8.

Two point on the line l are B (2,2) and C (11, -1). Find the area of triangle ABC.

I found the foot of the perpendicular of (7,7) and the line to be (5,1) so I did 0.5*9*6 = 27, but the answer is 30.

Can someone please help.

Find length of BC, find where the perpendicular from A to the line meets, find out how long this perpendicular is, then (base * height )/ 2 where BC is base and perpendicular is height.

There may be an easier way to do it but this is what I did and I got 30.

From that question, how do you find the perpendicular height?

I solved a simultaneous equation to find the foot of the perpendicular from A to the line BC, you know the foot lies on the line which joins BC and you know its gradient must be the negative reciprocal of the line BC's gradient.

Once you find the foot just use Pythagoras' theorem to find the height (magnitude) using the distances between A and the foot.
