Help with IR Spectroscopy

Hi, was wondering if someone could help me with this question?

Am I right in thinking that the correct answer here is "D"? Please could somebody explain? Thanks a lot.


In a typical procedure, a mixture of 1.00g of propanone, 5.00g of ethane-1,2-diol and 0.100g of benzenesulphonic acid,C6H5SO3H,is heated under reflux in an inert solvent. Benzenesulphonic acid is a strong acid.

The products would not have an absorption in the infra-red at

A 1050cm–1
B 1720cm–1
C 2950cm–1
D 3400cm–1
