I’ve just finished this course if anyone wants to know anything. I will be completely honest 😂

Is it too late to ask if you'd recommend it? 😂

Haha the course is fine, but the organisation/communication is absolutely awful. Prepare for disorganisation, last minute notices and late feedback/grades from assignments. Also, some of the lectures can be hard to follow if you haven't done psychology before, so make sure you attend if you can. In addition, make sure you keep in contact with your dissertation supervisor, because they have annual leave in August and can leave you high and dry in the last few weeks of the course! Oh and, the criminal behaviour and RIAD modules, and Sue (social lecturer) are fab!
I'm looking to study at Sheffield hallam or Manchester university but it seems vauge on the course it's self , the structure , ect i did go to an open day but they had a general talk on all design disaplines not specific ones , can anyone shed some light on the graphic design course at Sheffield hallam ? as it's post grad level I want to be sure about it before I choose

Hi @Lenny26

I'll get in touch with the academic to see if there is a student that can provide their insight into the course!

Hi @Lenny26

Sorry for the delay - I'm just waiting to hear back from a current Design student as she's been away so I will receive a response soon.

But I'm not sure if you have seen this video but this gives and brief insight into the courses (even Graphic Design).

Reanne
I'll take a look reanne thanks

Hi @Lenny26

I got in touch with Emma and she came back to me with a response! see below:

The course is split into 5 modules over 12 or 16 months. The first 3 modules are very structured as you are given briefs including one live brief where you will work with a partner. After that you will do your own project that is completely up to you and you will write your own brief. For these two modules you will see a tutor once a week, however it’s mostly self directed learning time.

At the end of each module you will submit a project report that includes the research/development of your project. For some modules you will need to also submit and an essay/poster/online blog.

A typical day would be a 10am lecture followed by an activity usually in groups. You will also be given one to one tutorials with your tutor once a week so you can go through your work with them and they can help you with what to do/look at next.

There were around 50 people in my class, mostly international students and only around 7 of us specifically studying graphic design.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

I have a pending unconditional offer for the MSc Occupational Therapy (pre-reg) January 2019 intake and during my bank appt today I noticed that the programs information page is no longer available, does anyone know why? I am having difficulties budgeting (international student) for this program as there is no information on the SHU website for this program anymore which is causing me worry.

Hi @asc173

The course is still running, sorry about the lack of information on the site. We are looking into this at the moment, the information will be back up on the SHU site soon. When it is live again you can have a look on the page about fees to help with your budgeting.

I'll keep you updated,

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thanks
Bridget

Hello!

We know that choosing to study a postgraduate degree can be a big decision to make, whether you're just finishing your undergraduate degree or you're returning to study after a break.

You can use this space to introduce yourself, and chat to other applicants and students about all things postgraduate at Sheffield Hallam.

Hey, I have an offer for MSc QS starting in September although not 100% sure I'm going to accept yet. I currently have a full-time unrelated job so not been able to do any work experience in the run up. Fortunately my uncle is a self employed QS with a business partner specialising in new build residential development so could work alongside him if I decide to do the QS course.

Hi Bridget

Do you know the word count of the QS dissertation?
Hi,

Hope all's well, that sounds good. I am in a bit of a similar situation, not really too sure what to expect. I have asked for 2-3 days of work experience at a few QS firms, just to get a feel of the industry. I was in the legal field first, I found that quite draining, too much reading and researching, and being stuck in the office all the time. I wonder how different QS will be. I have heard it can be quite a contentious at times. Looking forward to it though.

Hi Bridget,

Hope you' re well. Can you tell me, roughly, how may days we will be in University, on the full time mode of study. And secondly,in terms of teaching style, will it be mostly PBL type learning and working with students from other disciplines on projects e.g. architects ect....

Hi Bridget

Do you know the word count of the QS dissertation?

Hi @custardcreamkid

The course leader has come back to me about the word count:

Here are the task details for the PG dissertation, so the dissertation itself is 12,000 words.

Task No. 1
Short Description of Task - Preliminary research outline
SI Code - CW
Task Weighting % - 20%
Word Count or Exam Duration - 3,000 words
In-module retrieval available - Y

Task No. 2
Short Description of Task - Dissertation
SI Code - CW
Task Weighting % - 80%
Word Count or Exam Duration - 12,000 words
In-module retrieval available - N

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions!
Bridget
