Passed out whilst in shower

this morning, my boyfriend and i (we are both 18) decided to take a shower together. we kept the bathroom light off, but kept the bathroom door open a bit to let some light in. (should also mention it's a cubicle shower)

so we're in there about 5 minutes, i'd just washed my hair and rinsed the shampoo out, when my vision starts going blurry, and i feel really hot. the next thing i know i'm slumped at the bottom of the shower, with my boyfriend saying my name and trying to lift me up.

i've never fainted before, and i've shared a shower cubicle with somebody else before, so i wouldn't have just thought it was the heat.

i read online that fainting was common in pregnancy, so i even took a test cos i felt paranoid, but it was negative. what's going on?

also, i know i should tell my mum and dad (i live away at uni) but how can i change the story so that i don't have to say me and my bf were showering together? hmm!

It could just be a one-off due to the heat, in which case you don't necessarily have to tell your parents at all. However, if you felt ill beforehand it could be a symptom of something else so perhaps see your GP. There are lots of causes for fainting and some people do it all the time whereas some don't at all, or just very rarely. Unless there's a bigger problem here I wouldn't worry so much about it.

"I was taking a shower, and I fainted."

I tried to simplify, but I'm afraid that's the best I could do.

you normaly faint when your blood pressure either falls rapidly or rises rapidy, it was probably the heat, it can just happen, one if those things, especially if you havnt eaten!!

Reply 4

The exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago!

Reply 5

odd how that can happen!! the change in temp can do it too!! cool to hot!!

just tell your parents the truth... it sounds pretty serious for you to just lie about it. Your parents are the sort of people you should be turning to about these problems rather than random people on the internet who probably know f all.

Is there any possibility you could be pregnant? It would more likely be the heat.

It's not a terribly big deal; perhaps something to mention at your next doctor's appointment, but fainting because of the heat of a shower (being in the shower with someone else also raises the temperature in more ways than one) is not uncommon. I've never passed out completely, but I almost have to the point where I had to lay down and turn down the water temperature. Perhaps keep the fan on or open the door a little bit the next time you have a shower.

hehe, it amazes me and worries me how often people think that one event which is common for other reasons go straight to thinking there pregnant, im not taking away from others advice it is just so common for people to faint, and yes in the shower!!

Basically, your getting in a shower, relativly cool, since your naked and whatnot.
Your in a pretty enclosed space - warming up.
With your boyfriend - heat rises.
Hot/warm shower - even hotter.

(:

It's the cold - hot difference.

Don't panic. (:

Next time, window open, and maybe without your boyfriend.

Dont worry. I fainted in the shower not that long ago, due to hot water on my head and not having eaten much that day. I got told that at our age its more likely to happen once. And if this only a one time thing and it hasn't happened any other time then I'd say really... DON'T WORRY. But if it happens again then it might be a good idea to see a doctor, but don't bother if it doesn't happen again.
Also its not serious so you don't really need to tell your parents or if you wonted to then just tell them you fainted in the shower. But as above don't worry its just your body getting the blood to get evenly around your body, lying down and a glass of water do the trick.

Oooo, iv felt really faint before in the shower however, never actually fainted itself. Gathered that it was due to the heat from the shower though.

I always seem to come quite close to passing out after i've had a bath, but it's because I have literally no cold water in it, and i'm in for a good 90 minutes, so it's like heat overload xD

hmm passing out? hmm reminds me one of my friends slipped and smacked his head on the bath and was out cold till someone tried to use the bathroom.

you said u were hot, maybe over heating or something?

It worries me that someone at university couldn't think of a reasonable explanation for fainting in an small enclosed space with another person and a stream of hot water.

oh, i think you missunderstand me, or just judge before you should, i never once said i couldnt think of another explanation!! people just jump from the most obvious to an unlikely!! i didnt say it couldnt be that shes pregnant, but if you look at statistic you will see that the most common causes, and it is common is that its a dramatic change in blood pressure and the cause can be many reasons, i.e. change in temp, like having a shower, new situation e.t.c!!

i suggest next time you dont presume about people!!!

This has happened to me a few times, but I've managed to get out of the shower before actually fainting as the blurred vision was a warning. I have found that it only happens when I have had nothing to eat and shower on a very empty stomach. The heat seems to get to me more for some reason:confused: . So now I don't shower if I'm reeeally hungry lol.

I'm always hungry in the mornings, which is when I have showers, I hope this never happens to me!
