Retaining a moderator position requires complete neutrality, otherwise fair judgement is compromised. You, and several other moderators, lack this quality.
Why? It doesn't require complete neutrality at all, merely the ability to suppress personal opinion when performing moderation. There's no reason for moderators to be restricted from expressing their opinions just as other members do, as long as they don't express their opinions via their moderation activities.

I think the site administrator (d) is the best person to decide on what qualities a moderator should have with it being his site etc., don't you?

I'm sure Mr White will have a very pretentious and arrogant statement to return with.

I just watched Pretty Woman again. After that film I always feel like becoming a nice prostitute so that some rich charming guy can fall in love with me

* stares into the distance dreamily wondering how many mingers she's have to sleep with before Richard Gere lookalike came along*

Anyway, back to this thread. I don't think there's anything wrong with lapdancing. It is an industry and just because it isn't really respected doesn't make it any the less important. Think of all the poor men who'd be so miserable with the occasional lapdance. Think people should stop being so judgemental. Yes prostitution sucks but hey this is the way the world is and has always been. We should only start worrying when there are kids or people being forced into it.

And will people give Leekey a break. We are all entitled to our opinions and its better to have opinions than to just spout insults at people. Bit of maturity people. We can disagree but there's no need to take it so personally.

I agree, Toyosi!!!

And yes, Prostution is something that has always been around. Remember Jack the Ripper, killing all those prostitutes? Well that wasn't exactly in living memory was it? Its just something thats there - it'll be there as long as there are paying clients.

I can see that some people become 'exotic dancers' through circumstance, but what I can't understand is why someone would do it willingly, in place of a different vocation. You obviously have the potential to become something else - otherwise you wouldn't have posted regarding A-levels. What made you chose such a career? I wish you luck with whatever you want to do, however.

START RANT...

I have been MOD for quite a while now but this is probably the most offensive, narrow-minded thing I have seen yet. I find it appauling that you think it is acceptable to belittle anyone's "aspirations". If she was requesting information on how to become a doctor / lawyer / systems analyst etc... you would not even consider saying that. Do you honestly think that the world needs EVERYONE to try and clammer for a limited number of "academic" jobs?? I would have expectd slightly more maturity than I found in your post. The reason I have not deleted it is to point out how pathetic it is that people cant see past thier qualifications and understand that the world needs lapdacers just as much as doctor and lawyers. Respect isnt given to people through thier qualifications or job status although apparently some people would disagree with this!!!

...END RANT
Eeek I didn't mean it like that honest! I didn't mean to be cruel - i didn't even say anything very offensive...I thought the thread starter wasn't being very serious anyway. An opinion is an opinion and I think lapdancing is definitely self-degrading. What's wrong with saying it aint respectable? Why are you so annoyed by something insignificant I said? It was just one line expressing my amusement. And anyway, whatever anyone says lapdancing is not as respectable as anything academic if respectable at all and academics is what they were asking about!!!!!!! Don't be so stupid Leekey, what I said was very reasonable. As for deleting the post...that is absolutely hilarious...what an abuse of mod duties!!! Delete it for what? were there any swear words? dodgy links? anything? How immature...Lapdancing ISNT respectable and I didn't do anything wrong SO SHURRUP!!!

There *deep breath* thats my rant over.

1) What gives you the authority to select what is and is not a respectable profession?? I thought this was down to the person persuing the profession???

2) You are right that you expressed an opinion and that is a wonderful thing but please refrain from expressing "amusement" towards the goals / desires / aspirations of others. If you must make a critical comment, is it unreasonable to ask that you do so constructively?

3) It is possible to be offensive without using "swear words" and "dodgy links" and I felt that your original post was offensive.

4) If you have any complaints about me then please feel free to express them through the appropriate channels.

As in life, there will be those who find it offensive and those who do not. This is proven by the post after my response supporting my view and the reverse of the argument is represnted by other people disagreeing with my response in this thread. If you wish to guage public opinion simple read through the thread.

Surely through moderation you must have seen something worse than this.

1) what gives you the authority to select what is a respectful profession. I don't know you but I'm guessing that if you ever had a daughter you wouldn't be too happy about her aspiring to lapdancerdom.

2) Don't be so high and mighty. Everyone expresses "amusement" at some proffesions. For example if I said that I was really interested in a career as a lollipop lady and was wondering what A levels I would need to do in order to pursue this dream, people would think it was funny.

3) If the original post of which you speak is the one where Adhsur sarcastically said "what a respected proffesion", I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. It wasn't offensive and to be honest if you write stuff like that then expect to recieve less than possitive replys.

4) I got nothing for this one.

Not joining the anti Leekey gang or anything, just saying that you're taking this too seriously. Stop being so outraged by everything you read and take a second to think about it.

There is an anti-Leekey gang and I wasn't informed???

1) If I had a daughter I would I would hope that I would be wise enough to allow her to make her own decisions!!!

2) Im not being high and mighty, Im just saying that people should not derive amusement from the goals of others (whatever they may be - lollipop people included ). Is that such a terrible thing to consider???

3) OK, so you wouldnt be offended if I was to use sarcasm to attack your carrer plans?? Yeah right!!!

4) Ditto

I do take time to consider what I read, I also prefer to consider what other people (particularly the thread starter) would think when they read the replies. Can you honestly say that there was any need for the comment anyway??? If you cant offer advice / constructive criticism / help etc, then why post something that has the potential to offend???

Why is everyone being so horrible to Leekey??? All he did was state his opinion and try and stop possible offensive posts happenning. Just because he is now a MOD doesn't mean he's lost all right to form his own views and state them.

I like him anyway, he's always been nice to me!

Leekey is fully within his rights to post his opinion!

just cos hes a mod means actually very little in terms of the content of his posts.

indeed, they should (and are) the same as before modship.

mods are just ordinary members like you, with power to delete spam etc.

I don't buy it. What if your daughter wanted to be a prostitute or a pornstar? We all want to be wise as parents, wiser than our own at least, but i think when you become a parent you see these things differently. I have no problem with lapdancers but I would be very unhappy if my daughter decided to become one.

I wouldn't be offended if a stranger criticised me in such a shallow manner anyway. If I was serious it wouldn't mean a thing to me. I deal with it all the time. I want to be a lawyer (maybe) and although most people view it as a respected profession, my mum REALLY doesn't. I know its not the same as lapdancing, I'm just saying not everyone will agree with what you wanna do with your life but thats no reason to be hideously offended by criticism.
Maybe there was no need for the comment but there was even less need for the thread to be honest and if whoever started it was serious then maybe they would see it as constructive criticism. Thats the sort of reaction people are gonna have and they need to know that. If they can't deal with a stranger having a jab at them then how would they cope if their family and friends, people they actually give a crap about had a similar reaction.

And does it not occur to you that the original post might have offended people?
