Cooper S or Fiesta ST?

My current car is a 60 plate mini one. It's been a brilliant first car but I'm now in a position where I can upgrade. A five door car is not essential but is preferable and I'm looking for something in excess of 190bhp and under 7 seconds 0-60. I've never had a car from new, so a new car would be awesome. Budget is £20k-ish but cheaper would obviously be nice.

I'm thinking either a Cooper S or a Fiesta ST atm, although the Peugeot 208 gti has caught my eye.

Any suggestions/thoughts are welcome!

Can't comment on the pug although it's a left field option which might make it quite attractive.

Both the ST and Cooper S have in my option "marmite" interiors which mean it might be a deal breaker on the ST (you obviously don't mind the Mini) but imho the Minis interior is far better quality.

The best answer of course is to get a test drive in all that make sense price wise and see what you think.

Oh and check your insurance

A Cooper S is a lot more classy, whereas a Fiesta ST although a good car to drive but is incredibly chavvy and harks on chavvy white boys from Hastings. A Cooper S I've also heard is a great car to drive.

Out of your two options I'd say the Cooper S as it makes a great sound and is decently quick.

But if you're gonna spend £20k on a car can I suggest a few options:

Ford Mustang
Mazda RX8
BMW 330ci
Audi S3
Honda Civic Type R
Ford Focus RS
VW Golf R32
V6 Clio

There are so many more options out there but if you want something quick, I'd steer clear of your two options as you can get far quicker cars for a fraction of the price.

You're pricing is a bit off lol

The mustang & focus rs are over 30k

@OP, If you can get more money I would go for the john cooper works mini over the S.

You can pick up Mustangs for 5k I think you'll find.
They said new car was preferable not essential

So my pricing is not off as I was not talking about the new models

They are indeed! Why do people hate them so much! I mean in 90s all cars looked like that, it was the trend at the time :holmes:

If they appreciate cars then age is irrelevant
But I get the impression they want a new car for some reason :/

I agree, if it was me asking I would have said a E30 vs a 350z.

Well the options they gave would suggest that

I'd go for cooper s. The 208 would be my second choice.

V6 Clio? Hell no. I'm pretty sure those are mid-engined and highly impractical.

A Mustang would be difficult in the UK because there are very few used ones and most of those are only a couple of years old. Good luck finding one for £20k. On the other hand, an E46 330ci is more like £5k.

I'm not too keen on the BMW E46 to be honest, too many bad drivers in 'em.
