Maths M3- Elastic potential energy question.

hi was doing M3 jan 13 Q7 part C and was wondering as to why the mark scheme has halved all the elastic potential energies . any help is appreciated thank you :smile:

As far as I can see, it hasn't. The formula for EPE is λx22l\frac{\lambda x^2}{2l}. Note the 2 in the denominator.

If you mean anything else, please clarify.

oops never mind , silly mistake from me. I for some reason thought that its natural length was 0.15 and not 0.3 . so i assumed the 2l = 0.3 and they'd put in an extra 1/2
