mark schemes

if i answer a question correctly but use a different method to the mark scheme, will i still get full marks?for example, in c1 maths a question if i'm asked to solve an equation for x and i complete the square. but the method on the mark scheme says factorize even though my answer is the same, will i lose marks?

I did the same thing in C1 when finding the answer to 9 ii in the June 2011 paper.

Used simultaneous equations instead of co-ordinate geometry to work it out.

Nothing on simultaneous equations in the mark scheme, got the same end result.

solve the equation 9x^2 +18x -7

im not good with factorising things like that so i completed the square
oh ok..thanks

Unless a question specifies the method required then you will be fine.
E.g. Using factorisation, completing the square OR the formula is always acceptable as long as you come up with the right answer
