Lots of people get their belly buttons pierced, so yeah it's normal.

I never had that, but my friend did and didn't do anything about it and it got really infected and she's still got a really manky scar. I'd go back to the piercing studio and see what they say to be honest.

yeah i had that when i got mine done. it really hurt at the time & was sore for agessss. but id say its normal really, some people react differently to it than others.
dunno what youre cleaning it with, but i was told to wash it with sea salt dissolved in warm water using a cotton bud. i kept a big plaster over it too for a while, and it cleared up fine, ive had it for 2 1/2 years now and theres no scar or anything, never hurts now so id just say keep it really clean & dont worry its normal!

thier sodding vile things - belly chains now there sexy

but if yours is going red then id go back and have them look at it

Reply 5

if you're worried then definitely go back to your piercer.
what are you cleaning it with? because some things are too harsh for new piercings so that might be causing the redness.
as far as pussing goes, if its clear/pale white colour, thats fine and dandy.
anything more colourful and you need to get it looked at.

Try using a salt water wash on it (just boil some water, add a teaspoon of sea salt, and use a cotton bud to clean the hole) if you're not already, cos some stuff can be a bit harsh for it

I second (or third or fourth :p:) the salt water

Ditto for everyone else - just bear in mind that being diabetic might make your healing time a little longer. But go back and see what they say!

yeh definately get some sea salt solution on it

as well as using a cotton bud... its better to get a big lump of cotton wool, all soaked in the sea salt solution... then place it on top of the piercing, and keep it there for a couple of minutes

then use the cotton bud to try clean off any puss or crusties,

as chocolate.buttons has quite rightly put... clear or whitish puss is to be expected... if its green, blue, purple, luminous yellow, or any other random colour, go back to your piercer... or take a trip to your gp.

i 5th the sea salt idea but instead of using cotton wool, boil the kettle and add your sea salt to the water then have it as hot asyou can take it and put the entire glass over the area (best with like a tumbler type glass) you want to sit with it for maybe 10-15mins (you adopt a funny pose but once you get comfy its quite funny) and then just use the cotton wool to remove any crusties! i had to soak mine daily for a goodfew months but it is fine now and no problems at all since, id say see you piercer before your gp as they are usually not qualified in that kind of thing and so will tell you to take it out when really it can be fixed without this.

oooh good idea... i did the whole inverted glass thing when i had my surface piercing round that area...

yeh most doctors tell you to take it out... but if it is infected, it needs to be left in so the piercing can drain properly, otherwise it can be nasty

u also need to be sure, not to have the sea salt too strong, as this can actually irriitate the piercing slightly...

theres also the LITHA (leave it the hell alone) method, which some people like, and some dont... i use it more frequently now and it works fine for me..

basically, alot of people with piercings, will use too strong sea salt solutions (cant remeber the proper strenght off the top of my head) and with the cotton buds, pick at it too much, or move the jewellery around to much, especially in piercings where bcr/cbr's are used. this can drag 'stuff' into the piercing, which means it takes longer to heal..

basically, if you knock it, use some sea salt solution, if it starts to get really pussy and angry, use some sss till it calms down abit... otherwise, just leave it alone, the body can heal fine by itself (most of the time)

anyway, as most people recomend the sea salt soaks everyday, i would probably go with that, just try not to irritate it too much

From the sounds of it, it sounds completely normal.

A healing piercing should be sore, red, inflamed and should ooze fluid. The fluid in its correct state is clear, or slightly cream coloured. If it turns green or yellow, then it's turned from Lymph into an infection and should be treated.

When the piercing secretes a clear fluid, this is normal - it's the body's way of cleaning itself, and isn't harmful. A saltwater soak twice a day should do the trick. (1/4 of a teaspoon of sea salt, to one mug of boiled water)
