Hello, when revising the nervous system, I came across a question. I know the reflex pathway.
Receptor - Sensory neurone - Relay neurone - Motor neurone - Response
But where are they synapses.
Also, where does the CNS fit in
And what is the pathway for a non reflex action.
Thanks

Synapses are between the neurones (i.e sensory neurone - synapse - relay neurone - synapse - motor neurone). The CNS coordinates a response and sends an impulse from the relay neurone. And I don't think you need to know the pathway for a non-reflex action.

At GCSE you only need to know reflex arcs, synaptic gaps are between each nerve cell and it allows for the electrical impulse to be passed along. There are two parts to the nervous system, the CNS and the PNS the CNS consists of the brain and spinal cord and processes the information it recieves from the environmental stimulus, it goes to the relay neuron which then sends the message to the motor neuron

Thanks 🙂 So I only need to state that the synapses are between neurones and not specifically where they are.
