What do you mean by therapist?

If you mean being a psychiatrist who mainly provides therapy (https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/exp...-psychotherapy) you'd need 3 years of core psych training followed by 3 years of specialist training. I think these people also have to attend psychotherapy for quite a long time.

There are very few doctor psychotherapists in the UK. Clinical psychologists do most of the psychological therapies and behavioural therapies like CBT are much more common and have more evidence for their effects than psychoanalytical psychotherapy. If you want to do psychological therapies think about being a clinical psychologist not a doctor.
