Hi everyone! Thought I'd do an unofficial mark scheme for the health and social care care paper AS unit 2 (understanding health conditions and patient care pathways). This is just what i put, there are so many other different ways of answering the paper- especially on the longer answer questions! (I didn't want to write out the potential impacts questions because I really wasn't sure I'd got those, sorry.) I also have only gone into very brief detail in the longer answer questions because I can't remember exactly what I put 😂 Hope this is okay...
1a) two symptoms of testicular cancer other than lump or swelling:
- Dull ache in testicles or groin
- feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
1b) 3 medical interventions for testicular cancer:
- hormone replacement therapy
- Chemotherapy
- Radiotherapy
1c) potential impacts on Barry on his wife: Physical, emotional, intellectual, social and financial aspects
1d) Ways Barry can manage his diagnosis and treatment:
For this I just put about where he can receive help if he wishes to talk about his diagnosis to come to terms with it (e.g. Macmillan cancer support) I also put about the treatments he would likely be having, and how he could manage the side effects (e.g. The chemo will give him side effects like fatigue and nausea and therefore he will need to take his correct medication and get adequate sleep)
2a) 2 types of STIs other than gonorrhoea:
- herpes
- Chlamydia
2b) other symptoms carol may experience other than unusual discharge:
- Pain when urinating
- Bleeding between periods
- Bleeding during or after sex
2c) 3 medical interventions for gonorrhoea: I wasn't totally sure here, but I put
- a course of antibiotics for a week
- Paracetamol to ease uncomfortable symptoms, as well as any other painkillers such as ibuprofen
- Refraining from sex for at least 1 week
2d) potential impacts of gonorrhoea on carol: Physical, social, emotional, intellectual and financial aspects
3a) 2 causes of anorexia:
- abuse (verbally, physically, sexually)
- Social pressures to be thin
3b) 4 symptoms of anorexia:
- swelling in hands and feet
- Bad breath
- Excessive weight loss
- Dizziness and fainting
3c) patient centred pathway for Jessica:
I THINK...
- putting the patient at the heart of all care
- Involving them in decision making, treating patient as equal partner, respecting the patient
- Identifying ways in which patient can take responsibility for their own healthcare
- Empowering the patient to access other services, allowing them to give informed consent on everything
4a) 3 causes of asthma:
- mother smoked during pregnancy
- Exposed to tobacco smoke as a child
- Premature birth
4b) ways in which Brennan can manage his asthma:
Roughly..
- avoid triggers
- Monitor his asthma by checking respiratory levels with peak flow metre
- Stop smoking if he smokes
- Avoid royal jelly products
- Ensure to take medication properly and when appropriate
4c) patient care pathway for Brennan following a severe asthma attack he had: This is just how we were taught pathways:
1. GP, discuss symptoms, GP can test Brennan's asthma by asking him to do a peak flow test
2. Professionals likely to be involved with Brennan; an asthma nurse and doctor specialising in respiratory functions
3. They will assess Brennan further and based on the results will advise him accordingly
4. Most likely, Brennan's results will indicate his medication needs to be updated as well as having an updated asthma action plan
5. Brennan will have the opportunity to ask the asthma nurse about how he can modify his lifestyle now he has a new asthma plan
6. Monitoring asthma from then on to make note of any changes, should they arise- if they do, he should consult a GP immediately
7. If Brennan has another severe attack, he should follow his action plan. However if the attack gets worse or does not subside, he should take himself to A&E or call an ambulance.
I hope this was somewhat helpful! Please let me know what you guys got, I'm very interested to know!
