Feeling swamped, depressed and completely out of my depth

Hiya, sorry for what might be a longish rant

Basically, started uni 2 weeks ago - loved it at the start, people are fantastic, have already made some fairly close friends etc etc. Even the work wasn't too bad at the start. However after what was quite a busy day I feel completely inadequate compared to others doing my subject. It seems that everyone is a million miles ahead of me - I keep struggling to follow what everyone seems to know absolutely everything about! (which is German grammar by the way). I know everyone's probably felt the same at some point at the start of their uni careers - but I really don't see how it's going to get better, unless I actually work for literally 24hrs a day. Also the work is extremely fast paced here, so I just don't see how I can keep up! It's really depressing me...it doesn't help not having some of my closest friends here to talk about it - obviously I've made some friends, but being quite a closed-up person it takes me a while to really confide in people. Heeeelp! :frown::frown:

Aww. :frown: I know it's hard not to compare yourself to everyone else, but try your best just to focus on what you're doing and not worry about others. Chances are a fair few of them feel the same way as you do! It's only natural to feel uncomfortable and inferior in a new environment...after some more time I'm sure you'll be coping with everything just fine! If you need someone to talk to then feel free to PM me

I'm trying not to compare myself to others - especially like the native speakers (of which there are, depressingly, quite a few) but everyone else just seems to know it all! Doesn't help that I haven't found a really close group of friends yet, and everyone else has.....uni just isn't as good as I thought it would be :frown::frown:

Feelings like this come and go. You get over the buzz of the start and it all gets a bit difficult. Just remember, they accepted you onto the course, so you must be good enough. Work really hard then have a good night out. Maybe you could go home for a weekend? Might help to see some familiar faces and take the pressure off a bit.

i remember coming out of my first A level German lessons and crying! But I was comparatively good after sticking with it. I think you'll improve a lot if you work at it, just don't give up.

I feel the same, I'm doing Spanish. The class is full of lazy natives who make everyone else look thick  Anyway, the best way to allay your fears would be to make an appointment with your tutor and tell them how you feel. The longer you leave it the worse you're going to feel so nip it in the bud now.
