Does being famous make a guy more attractive?

It seems that girls find a man way more attractive if he's famous than if he's not - why is this?

Recently a guy called Liam from Big Brother came to a club at our uni. He went on stage and said a few words and literally had girls lining up on stage to snog him! He seemed to be a fairly average looking guy to me, the kind of guy who wouldn't be looked twice at on the street, but the girls were going crazy over him lol.

Guys don't find a girl better looking if she's famous, why do girls seem to?

A very dry answer might be that girls simply look for security in their potential partner. Someone famous would satisfy that role, most likely. Being on BB they might also feel they know him quite well, which does seem to be a bigger thing for girls than it is for guys.

Who knows really? Perhaps a psychologist could explain it all, the rest of us just have to ride along really... Humans, crazy folk.

Look at Peter Crouch. There's no way he'd get a girl as beautiful as Abi Clancy unless he was famous. I'm probably just below average looking and I'm the same height as Crouch but I don't have page 3 girls fighting over me so I'd say that the weight of yer wallet and yer face in the papers makes you a bit more alluring to nice-looking but fame hungry girls.

To all girls.

maybe it's cos it makes you feel more special because it's someone which everyone is 'crooning' over, if you like married someone famous.
or something.

angry banana is funny.

Tbh I don't think the fame itself has a whole lot to do with making a guy more attractive.
Most women are attracted to famous men purely because they offer fun, excitement and then chance of having something that others want. :p:
The fame on its own is what places these men in the lime light - giving the women the opportunity to develop their own ideas of what they are like as a person, and build up this idea of their 'perfect' guy.

Very true.

Look at Peter Crouch.

Yeah but he's incredibly rich too. These big brother guys don't get much money do they? Liam maybe got a couple of hundred quid for going on stage and getting slated by the males members of the crowd, but that's only gonna last for a few weeks probably. Sitting around in a house for like 3 months solidly has gotta make you one of the lowest members of society - how can someone subconciously see that as security?

I think this is the key. I heard about a study done in which women found a guy in a picture more attractive if there was a woman in the pic looking at him too. With men it was the opposite.

Some girls get kicks out of telling everyone that they met and kissed a famous guy. Bonus points for actually dating him.

People make way too much fuss over anything involving a famous person. It's not just girls - but I think guys are less likely to date a minger for status and bragging rights than girls are.

OK here's the acid test girls. If I was famous, had loads of money but still looked the same (see profile pic - 2 years outdated), would that make me more attractive to you? Be honest on this one.

I thought Liam was quite good looking and he said on the programme he had a lot of girls anyway before being famous!

I think if a guy has been on tv it just means a lot of girls have seen them, and you can build up a picture of what they may be like, more than a random guy! i'm sure guys would be the same if they got to meet kelly brook or something!

Someone i'd love to meet would be russell brand!

It depends what you were famous for :p:

I'm not too sure. Guys might get respect for ****ing a famous minger, not for dating her. They may also get the piss taken out of them.

As for Kelly Brooke, being famous has nothing to do with it!

No. The idea is just :s-smilie: and I would NEVER brag to my friends about snogging or sleeping with a guy from BB  Some of us have standards y'know :p:

I really don't think being famous makes a guy more attractive. There are barely any famous people that I find attractive; I much prefer everday 'boy next door types'.

My flatmates are always looking through celeb mags, watching films, or pop stars on TV, and commenting on how fit a lot of them are; but most of the time I really don't see it.

Maybe it's just that it seems like a guy is being considered more attractive, just because he's noticed/recognised by more people? I mean; how many guys in your everday encounters are recognised by almost every girl they pass in the street, and discussed by people who don't even know them? I think it's just that they're in the public eye and get noticed more. Hence why someone fussy, like me, doesn't see the attraction of many famous guys, where my flatmates do.

i think it's more about being rich and being seen with the famous guy. I mean, The Ripper's pretty famous but i doubt Abby Clancy is thinking about Crouch for him. (i'm watching something on the ripper now, that's why i used him as an example  )

To all girls.

What rubbish. I for one (and I know a lot of other girls who would agree with me) would be turned off by fame as it would attract unwanted attention and put added pressure on the relationship.
