How tall do you think i'll be by time i'm 18 and start uni?

Hey guys, how tall do you think i'll be by time i'm 18 years old and start uni?

I'm 16 years and 1 month old at the moment,
177cm or 5 feet 9.7 inches tall,
Dad is 5'10 (although was 5'11) and CAUCASIAN (white)
Mum is 5'2 and ASIAN

How tall do you think i'll be when i'm 18? how about 17?
What can I do to maximize my growth potential? I know lots of sleep. Should I drink lots of milk as well? Do sports such as basketball and swimming?

I heard maximizing your posture can gain 1 or 2 inches.. how can I do that??

Thanks.

*takes out calculator*

right if we assume pi is the natural logarithm of cheese doodles, we can imply that the wind is blowing east at a rate of sockman doing a jig in a bikini....

extrapolate the lemon and the answer is;

5 feet 10.8429293832902

lol

just go by your parents heights as a rough estimate. Its not like your going to grow THAT much more now. You could grow to over 6ft if your lucky but i wouldn't bet on it.

The rack is a very popular method. More practical methods, well i've never heard of milk helping you grow... but they are good for your bones i guess... If you dont slouch your spine will grow straighter and therefore you'll be a bit taller than usual. Just try walking round like your a chav but dont flail your arms about.

I'm guessing 5ft11. Approximately. But honestly, thats a good height to be! I'm 5ft8 and wouldn't change it for the world

So far you've been heading in the direction of your dad's genetic tendencies, but I am afraid that you will begin to average out and head back down the scale. I'd imagine that you'll be looking at around 5'8'' at the beginning of university and 5'5'' by the end (assuming it's a three year course).

Some doctors suggest that a diet high in milk as well as frequent basketball sessions might slow down the shrinking, but that's purely speculation at this stage in the research.

Alternatively you could shrink yourself in the washing machine on a hot wash and be 5'5 like me.

Reply 5

Untrue... it's not always about youre dads genes....actually mostly about youre mothers side of the gamily... if shes got a brother, then that will be a good comparison...

And growing...I'm 1.94m tall
When I was 15 I grew a whole +-8 cm, in one year... Men don't stop growing untill they reach the age of 21, but with height probably only 18-19.

5'9" is a good height. You certainly won't be the shortest when you get to uni even if you don't grow anymore.

How long is a piece of string? Nobody can accurately predict this for you, even taking your parents genetics in mind.

As far as maximising your growth potential, unless we are talking taking GH which may be illegal in your parts, nothing else has conclusive evidence of the benefit of promoting growth without there being contradictory evidence.

I'd be happy with what you are now, 5'9 is the average height of UK males, so you are already over that! If its a primal thing, I'll tell you now, that it doesn't matter if you are 6'3 or 5'9, if you don't have a likeable personality you always will be less admired than those that do.

I was around that height at 16,now i'm like 5'10/11.People can have growth spurts up to the age of 20.

Reply 9

That's already really tall! I'd rather have a bf that height than any taller.

How should we know

They can give confidence intervals for the range though... :p: (Obviously by definition rarely people fall outside of them, though.)

Assuming your parents heights given are your biological parents:

- Add 13cm to your mother's height
- Average your father & mother's heights = 'mid parental height'
- Your target height is a 10cm range of this

- To try & assess whether your growth has been "normal" or is on target for this find a growth chart (paediatric wards for me - but I imagine they're googleable).
- Plot your height and age on this, ideally some previous heights and ages too.
- Have you followed a centile line?
- If you keep following the centile line will you be in target range? If so that's likely to be your final height.

- If you're way outside target - have you been ill? Do you feel ill? Or perhaps you're just unlucky...
- If you've fallen off the centile in the last few years but are still within target it's possible you have constitutionally delayed growth & might make it back on & up with a late spurt. To assess this - how far along in puberty are you (medics do this by measuring testes size & looking at bone age). & did you mother or father 'develop late'.

Hope this helps.

That's very funny. I was actually heading for 6 feet tall until 14 or 15 years old (by looking at the growth chart), then my growth slowed a bit so now it looks like i'm heading for 5'11 instead. Forgot to mention: my mother says she grew at a normal rate like a lot of her friends.

However, my father was a total MIDGET in his class, one of the shortest boys in his year. This was until he was 17 when he suddenly gained a few inches to be 5'11. Is there a good chance i'll be like my father and turn out to be 6'0?

I have several signs of late development. My last baby tooth only came out when i was 14. But I also have several signs of early development... for example I broke my voice when I was 13, and started getting pimples when I was 12, almost 13. I also have a relatively large head.. does that indicate anything? Thanks.

5 feet 9" already and you want to maximise your growth potential!

You are mega tall already; try being 18 and short as a 13-year old....*sniff*

5'10 is the average height so people saying 5'9 is really tall are talking out of their rectums.

Yeah, maybe the average for non-Asian males.

The fact that the OP is half-Asian (though he did not state whether he is Indian Asian or Oriental Asian) and that I am Chinese gives me the right to say that 5'9 is tall.

His father is a non-asian and I think it's fair to say that guys are usually matched to their fathers height rather than their mothers. Regardless of his origins, he lives in the UK where the average height is 5'10 and he's obviously asking with regards to university - asian males are not the sole inhabitants of universities. So no, you telling him 5'9 is really tall is just factually innacurate.

Well, yes, I understand that, but when I said that being 5'9 is tall, I did not state, "5'9 is mega tall" in a factual context; what I was merely saying was that "5'9 is mega tall" in my own opinion.

It might be factually inaccurate, but to me it is true.

By the way i'm 5 feet 9.7 inches, not 5'9  [just felt like pointing out] and i'm 16 years, 1 month old.

Growth chart reckons around 180cm.
