Yes, Anthropology and Sociology. What I really like about St A is the fact I can change course if I dislike it more easily! Also it seems a little more prestige.

Have you visited St A or are you not bothering too?

Reply 1381

No Im not going to. Everything just feels right about Durham, so Im going to go for that! Oh yeah and Im lazy haha

A family member has a friend who works for LSE as an anthropology researcher, and I asked him about what he thought of prestige and reputation. Apparentely St As and Durham are very similar. I think he was a bit biased to Durham on the other questions because it does the same biological and social basis as LSE does! But apparantely LSE, St As and Durham are great departments, so after that I was still happy to stick with Durham!

Now I just have to dare press the button and firm it.....arrgh I'll do it later....

History and English. I applied to stupidly popular/'good' unis, so I guess it was kinda my own fault. I wasn't completely deluded though - I honestly wouldn't have applied there if I didn't think I was 'good' enough. (Not in an arrogant way, but I got 300/300 in AS History!) Never mind though. I'm gonna take it as 'fate' and have a fabulous year out

Think I'm gonna apply for just History next year, because I am better at it than English, and I enjoy it a lot more. I kinda regret applying for the joint course actually.. But do you think it'd be stupid to apply to the same unis again the second time round? I mean, I'd probably swap one of them for a uni I know I'll be GUARANTEED to get into, just so it doesn't happen another time around :p: but still, is is silly to apply to 4 of the same again (assuming I get my predicted grades)? 'cos they're really where I wanna go - if I wasn't so dead set on them I'd try Extra or even clearing..

p.s sorry to hijack the st andy's thread with my tales of woe :p:

*hugs* that's crazy - 300/300 at AS history?! I certainly can't complain about my rejection then, I didn't get full marks:p: (289)

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

EDIT: I think you're crazy Liedown :P but congrats, hehe. If we both miss our first grades then I'll see you at Edinburgh!

Haha thank you :p:  I didn't realise you'd been rejected from St Andrews! Im sorry I didn't see that on your sig at first! Yup, if that happens see you at Edinburgh! Lets hope it doesn't, but oh well, that'll be a bonus if it does! :p:

Stupid question: do you still apply for accommodation at your insurance?

Haha, and I second that question....???

I've got to decide between St. Andrews and King's College London.

I know they're completely opposing schools, one in rural Scotland and the other downtown London, but I just have no idea. I don't know whether I want 3 or 4 years of school, or which has a better reputation for job prospects. Any advice?

What course is it??
I got an offer from both KCL too but after getting St Andrew's offer I didn't even consider King's! The fact that King's was only a 3 year BSc and St Andrew's is a 4 year MA was a big factor! You get a lot more flexibility with St Andrew's in first 2 years- I can do Classics at St Andrew's in first year, or Spanish, or Italian- whatever tickles my fancy! :p:
Plus, St Andrew's is the prettifullest!!

I think the time may have finally come........to firm St Andrews!!

I feel a bit like LieDown did, its really scary!!

Even now just writing that, I thought 'aaaahhhh, what about UCL!' :s-smilie:

Aaaah god, I'm going to talk with a mate on Facebook first, while I wait for Pickfords movers to finally arrive and bring my drum kit out of the van!! They're 2 hours late!

It's a Scottish MA, it equals the English Bsc. You still need to study further if you want to have the 'real' MA

blondie0303: It depends, if you know exactly what you want to do in the future or not. Scottish system lets you choose 3 different subjects in the first two years. So you have 2 more years to decide what you want to really do.

Oh yeah, I know the BSc equals the MA but it was the 3 years versus the 4 years that really stuck out. :p:

Yay! Go for it!
If you firm it and it doesn't feel right, you still have 14 days to change it so you won't be trapped....

Congrats LieDown!

Reply 1393

Thank you chester!

Ah it was so scary pressing the button! So I know how you feel Wasps, but once you've gone it you feel so happy and very relived! Or at least I did. So happy I attempted to make a Durham banner, which went horribly wrong and I am too embarassed to put in my main sig  haha but I was excited nonetheless.

Reply 1394

Well the Scottish MA/Bsc isn't really equal to an English Bsc - it's of a higher level, but it's still below the English MA.

I believe at some universities you wouldn't have to take an English MA to go on to do a PHD if you're thinking of further study after St Andrews. Having said that it depends on your course more than anything.

Congrats LieDown - now go on, show us the banner! :p:

Thank you MarshallM! Are you not going to make a decision until you've seen St Andrews? Very sensible and patient of you, unlike me haha.

It's in my second spoiler on my sig. It will be promoted to the proper part of the sig once I've moved it onto my Dad's computer and can make it look a little better

I didn't realise firming universities was so hard for some people. I firmed St Andrews in a heartbeat but good luck to everyone yet to decide! ( I'm sure you'll make the right decision:wink: )

Ditto! There was no contest between my choices at all! :p:
I haven't visited St. Andrew's, and probably won't, but it was so easy to do!

Ah it's pretty good!

I've just realised, knowing my luck Scotland will declare independence and decide to charge English students thousands more.

Reply 1399

Haha god that would be annoying. Well, when you do go up, can you tell me what the department was like! I'm interested to know. It was really only a few things that stopped me going to st andrews, otherwise I'd have that firmed right now!

Argh I hate my banner Im going to redo it on my Dads computer, he has more than just paint and microsoft word! Stupid old computers. Thank god Im off to uni soon: an excuse to be bought a laptop!!
