tooth filling

i had a really bad swimming accident yesterday and bust my front teeth. the left one was almost gone and the right chipped quite badly. i had to go to the emergency dentist and have them sorted out. he took some x- rays and filled them so they kinda look real now. but they are so sore. will they ever feel like my real teeth again? also, i will eventually be able to use them like i used my old ones right? ill be able to bite into an apple again wont i . . .

im really upset :frown:

I smashed my two front teeth when I was about 9. I had them filled (I can't think of the technical name!) & still have them 11 years later (although they've broke twice & I've had them replaced). I was given the option of having a crown on them, but was then discouraged as a lot of my tooth was still left & I'd have to have them chizzled away.

No, I can't bite into an apple. I have to slice them up. No, unfortunatly your teeth won't grow back & what you have left will never be anymore than that unfortunatly :frown:. In terms of 'using them like your old teeth', there are certain foods you won't be able to bite straight into which the dentist should have gone through you with.

my friend had part of a tooth knocked out and he had something put in that allows him to eat apples. but it doesnt look much like a real tooth.
your dentist would be the best person to answer these questions, wait to see what they say and recommend before you become distressed.

same. although I could bite into a apple but I wouldn't as there is a very good chance my tooth could come off.

i had a fainting accident in the bathroom back in april and chipped away my left front tooth in a horrible huge diagonal way.
went to the dentist a couple of days after (i had to stay in hospital for a couple of days due to hitting my head) and he filled it in. however, i bit into a sandwich in about may, thinking that it would be strong enough...but no it wasnt. it broke off. so i went back to my dentist and he refilled it. it looks more like my original tooth now but i still wont bite on it (5 months later).

my dentist did tell me that if it falls off again then he can put a veneer on, which will last for a very long time and shouldnt need replacing for decades to come. i keep meaning to go back and get this done but for some reason i cant find the time. shame really - i would love to bite into things again!

my lil bro lost half of his one tooth diagonally by hitting it on the floor of a swimming pool. his doesnt really look the same as the tooth next to it cos its a slightly different shape and is too thick but he can bite into apples fine. i think it depends on how much you break off and maybe even the angle of the break. normally people who break teeth like you have said are recommended not to go biting into hard food like apples etc cos there is a chance they will break off

in the future perhaps you could go for a new fake tooth - the oens where they drill metal into your jawbone and then screw in the fake tooth - it would look real and be solid.
