I reckon you'll probably be trained to use tills

but in all seriousness, I have no idea as I've never done it :p:
Depends what type of till, i can only talk about supermarket tills, but its pretty easy. Just get taught what does what on the till, buttons for different things, and how to scan stuff/enter stuff into the till, as well as whatever specifics of the type of job, and maybe stuff about taking cash/card/cheque or whatever. If you can use a computer, you are more than qualified to use a till :p:

Usually takes as long as you need to get comfortable with it, though actual practice is where you really learn, so it only covers the basics, so shouldn't take very long.

Beat me to it.

Till training is easy. Was shown in 10 minutes last night (first night on a new job) how to use a till and after half an hour was use to it already, and I'm crap at counting on my own too.

Why do you need a calculator? Isn't that what the till is for? :p:

yeh im doing my on friday- do i really need a calculator? i assume the till does everything- what do i need it for?
You don't need a calculator.

The first part is always the fun of how to sign on- differs if it's your own till that no-one else uses or if it's a shared till that you just log onto. Then how to swipe a loyalty card if there is one. Then the till will show the normal sales screen. There'll be a keypad of some description if you need to type in a barcode for whatever reason. So you scan stuff blah blah blah and press subtotal. Then you have to be trained on various methods of payment. Cash, credit cards, debit cards, how to enter cashback if there's the option, how to process cheques if you take them, how to do giftcards/gift vouchers/coupons/student discount. Then there's stuff like refunds/exchanges if you're entitled to do them, voids- cancelling an item/the whole transaction, overriding a price if it scans in wrong...and that's about it. Do not make a load of change for large notes for someone or make more change for someone after already dividing their own change. It's a scam and you will lose money.

It's actually really easy.
It's easy, may take time getting used to - but it's piss easy.

That's interesting about Till. It's the thrill though.

there isnt much involved when till training.
i worked on the tills at Tesco for 2 and half years :'(, once you're used to it you tend to go on autopilot
