A law department like Nottingham are primarily concerned with academics (a-levels, GCSEs and LNAT), stuff like a pre-law course is not going to have a significant impact on your application. If you want to do it, go ahead, it could be interesting, but dont expect admissions tutors to be too impressed. In fact, Nottingham is one of law depts reputed not to care much about the personal statement and operate an LNAT cut-off point

Thanks nayiseda, what about other unis though, not sure about Nottingham yet.

A pre-law course isn't a bad thing and it could give you that little bit extra that admission tutors like to see. It's not a prerequisite to study Law but it shows commitment, that you're keen and that you've done your research. Plus it allows you to develop some pretty important skills which is hardly ever a bad thing. But yes, to answer your original question, Nottingham is a respected Law school.

wow, i was wondering what your predicted grades and things were? because i really want to go there to do law!!! what did you get in your lnat? xx
Nottingham is indeed an excellent place to read law, however, to avoid confusion, the equally excellent Nottingham Law School that you may see references to is NOT part of the University of Nottingham it is part of Nottingham Trent.

Nottingham is often referred to as being a top-notch Faculty to read undergraduate Law. I would put it on par with Bristol or KCL.

One of my recently graduated lawyer friends who is now doing his LPC at Nottingham Law School is adamant that it's not actually part of Trent, but just uses their buildings... is he right, or just in denial?

He's in denial. The website is pretty clear about that it having a massive nottingham trent logo at the top. The wikipedia entry is pretty clear too. It's a bit like the manchester business school, i.e. an autonomous institution within another.

I think this...http://www.ntu.ac.uk/nls/...answers your question Alex.

It's on the NTU website, based in NTU buildings and they get an NTU Student Card.

Poor bloke must be in massive denial.

Nottingham Law School is Trent not Main Notts

LLB may be great at Main notts, but the LLB students from Main Notts will eventually go to Nottingham Law School of Trent to do the LPC or BVC.

i went to the prelaw course last year. 3 days 2 nights. very tiring but interesting indeed. i encourage you to go. it's not a waste of time at all. i did mention it on my ps, i even stated i attended it as nottingham..perhaps it doesn't make a big diffference in nottingham..but in a non-lnat uni which i guess u will at least go for one.i guess it does make some difference. not sure whether it will be significant tho.
but the prelaw course is definitely beneficial! at least for you personally.

i'm going to nottingham to do law this sept. and to be honest nottingham law is actually better than bristol's if not KCL's. definitely a great place to do law!
