Hi everybody! Just wondering how everybody else found the poems Autumn and Today?
I hope everybody did okay!

I didn't really like it lol found it pretty hard to analyse and feel like my points were weak but they were pretty perceptive like structure so hopefully it'll be alright haha
dont think they were that bad. general idea was imo that autumn was baddy that stole winter. spring was good thing that got rid of winter

Autumn stole winter? I thought that autumn stole summer as it was described to be 'Grabbing the green stuff' - the green leaves of summer?

Think of this- autumn allegorises nature - so 1 long stanze and enjambement- overflowing power of nature. So 'green stuff'- money- which is humans 'greatest treasure' yet nature grabs this with ease, emphasises great power of nature compared to man

Yeah that's similar to what I put except you worded it better lol
I wrote about how "Autumn" is presented as being destructive and power. However, for "Today", I wrote about how it is full of positive imagery. For, "Autumn" I also, wrote about how a robbery had took place and how it tried to cover its steps. The poem is an extended metaphor for a robbery. Hope that helps.

That's one interpretation. I said that the bleakness of autumn replaces the vivacity and vitality of summer - hence it is 'Grabbing the green stuff' - reflected through metaphor of a robber - 'Grabbing' - negative connotation. Said that the contrast between the fast, free-flowing enjambment with the caesura used when speaking about the wind reflected how autumn slows down the excitement and emotion felt during summer.
Great ideas!
I thought that the enjambment represented the stealth of the "experienced robber" and also how quickly it overtook summer. Also, the idea that the seasons change very fast.

Who wrote about the earth being red as a connotation to global warming as in autumn everyone starts to work as many people don't work in summer.
Also that it shows the anger and rage filed when summer is gone

I put the same thing about how quickly and abrupt the transition was.
Oh, i'm sure it will be fine. I also found them hard to analyse as i'm sure many other people did. Try not to linger on it though - it will make you feel worse...

Think of this

'Red' is the sky or something- and sky linked to heavens which is a metaphor for god. Initially the sky(god) was 'placid' yet turns 'red- satanical colour and metaphor of evil. Divine- satanical. Metaphysical rage, therefore suggests how the power of nature (seasons ) is extremely powerful yet needs to be controlled. As natural power > mans power, bold suggests how all power should be controlled

This is like grade 9 analysis so it's all right if I didn't think of this
Did you write about the idea that the personification of autumn could be interpreted that the season's elements aren't just that but that they are also physical invaders that have stolen something meaningful from both the poet and the Earth, hence the change in temper of the Earth?

Yay got a lot of this stuff. Wish I'd thought of the lovely one about 'green stuff' being like man's money. I went off on a tangent about a possible interpretation of the reasoning behind a poem filled with such hatred and range at the season change (autumn) bc let's face it, it was a weird theme to write about 😂 Wrote something about how the poet may have lost a loved one at the change of the seasons and using all the personification and extended metaphor helped him channel his rage. Idk don't think it's particularly relevant but I was running out of things to say aha. Anyone else do anything like this? Xx
Ah... Interesting interpretation. I like it!

Yes, i also did my response based on the idea that the poet is angry at the season change (as is the Earth). Perhaps this was due to the idea that summer is his favourite season and autumn stole this from him?

I had only 20 minutes to do the last section and so my points were not at all perceptive for the 24 mark. I wrote that nature is evil and stole the joy of summer, the author personified autumn, bringing it to life and for structure I wrote about enjambment symbolising how he wished summer would never end. I wrote about adverbs and personification as the devices, of course this is all paraphrased, but what this enough? I wrote more than half a page, I feel like it was too less. What do you think I got??
