if you do, they would likely deduct 1 mark for the initial mistake but I imagine they'd give a sort of 'Error Carried Forward' attitude to the rest. I wouldn't worry about it.

so they'll only take one mark off for answering the wrong character? and also lots of people over the country did the same mistake as ive saw on twitter so would that help?

Guess what? It won't affect your grade. Why? Nearly everybody did it.

how do you know that?

I guess it depends on what you actually wrote, if you did your whole answer on a completely different character then would it even be on the mark scheme? I'm sorry it happened to you though, but I doubt you were the only one.

Hey, don't know if it's still relevant but my english teacher called AQA and they said they'll still mark it due to the amount of people that made the same mistake (including myself) ONLY if the essay is really good; overall you shouldn't worry too much if you wrote a good Mr. Birling essay.

see, what i don't get about people saying it will be fine is the fact that the subject itself is english. if you fricked up the reading part in an english exam then i don't know why they should give anyone marks because it's so basic and you're expected to be able to read properly smh-no hate tho bc it was under exam conditions-i just did question two because apparently that's the harder question/the one you can get a higher mark with.

I sadly made the same mistake. Can you give me more details about what AQA said? And if the essay is really good, will my mistake still have a strong/mild/no effect on my final grade?

I don't quite know what AQA exactly said, but this is from another post in the forum: Hello,
Thank you for your query.
At this stage I cannot comment on how marks will be awarded in the English Literature exam this morning, but I can reassure you that our examiners are first and foremost looking at the quality of candidate’s writing.
Candidates will not be penalised for this mistake, as examiners will pick up on this error and apply a “best fit” approach to marking the overall quality of the candidates response.
If the quality of the writing is high, and candidates responded to the issues raised in the question, they will be marked fairly.
We never deduct marks, and only award marks for relevant, high quality responses.
I hope this can reassure you.

Yeah, I wouldn't stress too much about it as it's very likely at this point you'll just be marked with the many more that did the same error possibly out of anxiety or hurry; however even if you don't then you still have 80% of your English Lit. marks available so if your other essays were good then you very well could get a very impressive grade. Don't worry about it too much and I'd suggest focusing on other exams - maths especially.

So your saying I could have wrote about Mr Birling instead of Mrs Birling and get full marks because my essay is worth 30/30? But I answered the wrong question...

Wish I knew this yesterday 😀

I wouldn't worry - I did the same and I think because so many people made this mistake AQA will be kind when marking
