Hey guys! So I was just wondering if I could mix different mythologies for my novel (E.g Greek with Celtic with contemporary creatures of today, etc)

Has it been done before? Is it encouraged/discouraged?

I'm giving some of those famous mythological creatures a new historical background, new traits, etc (basically adding a twist to them)

I'm also inventing new creatures and throwing them in the mix.

Opinons?

Thanks!

It's certainly possible and has been done a lot. Example that come to mind are Neil Gaiman's 'American Gods' and Kevin Hearne's series 'The Iron Druid Chronicles'.
How far are you planning to deviate from the source material? I do encourage you to preserve the spirit of the respective mythologies.

Thank you so much for your response! And not that far. I'm not sure of this but has the legendary Thunderbird been used a lot? Or would it be something new and original?
