Council Tax - Claim back?

Hello All,

I'm a student on sandwich year scheme and I live in a private rent etc, I've been paying council tax since August last year and I know that students are exempt from paying council tax but I didn't realise it applied to students on work placements.

Has anyone had any experience in trying to 'claim' council tax back?

Does the student exemption actually apply if your on a work placement? I've checked and everything I've read says it does and a friend also doing something similar to me doesn't pay it either.

Yes but not a large amount.
