how can i get my mind to work faster?

hey

i'm feeling so stupid atm. i just got a new bf and he's really highlighting how slow my mind works. like figuring things out and remembering things. i always wanted to change that about myself, but i just kinda coped with it and concentrated on other things. but now i want to change it cos i don't want him to think i'm stupid. it's not just the way i am is it? i can change...? any ideas?

also maybe along the same lines, but i take things way too literally, and always have, but he's always joking around but i usually don't realise for a while. argh...it's something i'll just get used to and adapt to right?

btw this is anon cos i dont' want everyone to know who the stupid girl is. it's embarassing. and also i'm not entirely stupid, i'm at uni studying medicine (so i'm not entirely a lost cause, but it doesn't mean u have to be clever to study it)

thanks
xxxx

You obviously are pretty smart. You just think of different things to your boyfriend. I'm sure there are a lot of things that you would get faster than he does.

lol i'm kinda like you. and i'm only doing an archeology degree, not something like medcine. i can be pretty smart sometimes but at others i'm a complete dumbass and take ages to get something that everyone else gets (its also to do with my bad hearing, but thats another issue). don't worry about it and just don't take any jokes about it personally. i'm sure your boyfriend likes you the way you are

Make a habit of eating 5 almonds a day. Trust me, it works.

thanx for ure replies, but it is something that does annoy me. medicine, the way i personally have got thru all these years, merely invovles memorising the minimum a couple months before exams (obviously my bf doesn't do it this way) so i haven't really used my brain to think things thru. but i'm doing a bsc in management this year, and have to actually start using my brain now and thruout the year.

i want to change the fact i get so distracted easily and the fact that it feels like i'm wading thru jelly when i'm trying to think. it feel slike my head is full of cotton wool a lot of the time :frown:

i'm worried my bf will get bored of me soon, i mean i managed to cover up the fact i'm so slow when we were 'seeing' each other, but it's hard when i see him a lot more now we're going out...

The answer is clearly Nintendo brain training! Well, I think it works

I would also be interested in constructive answers to this problem, ever since i have been on medication for my epilepsy i have felt my mind works slower.
Its harder to concentrate, it takes my much longer than it did pre medication to work things through like math equations.
Very annoying when im studying a mech eng degree, lots of lateral thinking and equations flying around!

Logic puzzles? Sudokus? It's not as silly as it sounds. Logical thinking creates neural pathways in your brain, they help you think faster.

Remember that's maybe just because you want to get it thoroughly, whereas many people just pretend they're on top of stuff when they're not.

That's not necessarily because you're not as clever as him, it could just be that you've got different senses of humour. You'll get used to his over time, it could just be that you've never been around people with that style of humour before. I know I upset my boyfriend a few times with my sense of humour (he got really offended when I bought him a Barbie easter egg, cos he thought I was saying something about his sexuality, whereas really I just thought it was humourous because.. well... he's a boy.. and it's a girl's easter egg.. ). I wouldn't get upset about it though, you'll get the hang of his jokes soon, and then you won't feel so slow!
