Birmingham! Not that I'm at all biased... ^___^

London. In nott's you'll get shot, and Birmingham is wannabe London :P (Don't shoot me!)

Birmingham is incredibly ugly.

Nottingham... well I don't like it at all living here so I won't go into that. But really, I've had one incident of violence in about 10 years of living here and I've never seen anything serious. So I get the impression it's either hyperbole, or that people from other places come here and act like tits?
I have friends who live in Forest Fields, Hyson Green, The Meadows and Radford and I go to college in Bilborough by the way, so I've done the grand tour countless times and never had any trouble.

Depends which part of London. Some parts are practically third world whilst some are lovely and vibrant.

if you are after a large city then you can't beat london

As a student, either notts or brum - London is just so so so expensive.

As my friend put it - there is no such thing as being a student in London, just being poor in London.

Please explain this!! lol it's making me quite nervous, i applied to birmingham

London is good for being a student in, but accommodation will probably be at least £100 a week.

Reply 8

I thought birmingham uni was lovely when I went to see it. People seem awesome as well and you've got a great range of nightlife. Of those 3 I would probably go for brum.

Reply 9

I applied to Aston, Nottingham, and Brunel. Kind of want to get out of London, since I do already live here and I need to get out of my comfort zone. So now it's between notts and brums....eeeek!!!

Aesthetically, Birmingham is not very pleasant... It might be fun etc. but I can't enjoy places with no character or beauty very much. Others are different obviously and the nightlife etc. may well be more important.

London is too expensive. If you have a large amount of money then go for it by all means, but if not then the other two are the better options.

Birmingham is a pretty cool city.

Reply 12

I've no idea about London but I've been a student at both the Universities of Nottingham and Birmingham and Birmingham is much, much better.

Reply 13

I did apply to london as well..hmmm...decisions decisions...

Reply 14

wait...actually at this point it's not at all my decision :s-smilie:

Wow, I would have heard Nottingham is better for student nightlife...

Personally I think Nottingham is your best bet. I lived there for over 20 years, and i've never had any problems. But then I live in a very safe area (very quiet, mostly pensioners) and as the above poster pointed out, there are some areas of Nottingham you'd be wise not to stray into. However, as I always say, there are parts of every city like that. The people who start about gun crime being everywhere are ignorant and too easily manipulated by the media.

if moneys not an issue -----> london no question

From my experience so far, Birmingham has loads of different clubs with some brilliant and much better student nights. Then again, maybe I just didn't do enough exploring in Nottingham. Just my opinion anyway.

London all the way!! It is so not that expensive here...people just exagerate, except maybe for the rent but aside form that there are lots of places you can get stuff cheap. There loads of unis here...probably more than any other city and as a result there are always student nights pretty much every night of the week where drinks are only around £1.50-£250. You just have to know where to go. Plus there's all the museums and the west end!!!

You can get tickets for a play for a tenner at last minue.com plus (depending on which uni you go) they subsidise the cost of some of the tickets.

Also everthing is really close by so you don't really have to rely on public transport unless you're lazy! (this does depend on what uni you go to). London is amazing place to be a student...the main expense is the rent but you can get some accomodation for £89 a week which is really good. I would totally reccomend it. People say rent is expenisve but there are other uni's in other cities that have more expensive rent such as exeter and some scottish uni's which have some accomodation at around £170 pw.

I pay £112 a week for my accomodation....but i have the whole of london on my doorstep which totally makes up for it....i'll never be able to live in london for so cheap again. Plus my room is really nice!
