Under 18 Custody

If a child under 18 was arrested for the first ever time, will their life get affected forever? So, if they were applying for university/sixth form/job or to visit or live in other countries, will this offence be seen? Just wondering

Arrested= no- No charge.
cautioned= slight effect, but generally no.
Convicted and imprisoned= has an effect then it depends how serious.

More serious it is i.e a conviction then the more likely it will show.. After time its removed from basic DBS searches , but for more advanced ones it can always be seen i.e to get into a profession like medicine or law.

It doesnt sound like anything has happened.

My friend got arrested and he's 16, for common assault but he got released under investigation a few hours later at the police station, the police officers did say that it won't affect job applications, but what about university and sixth form? Will everyone know about it? He doesn't want to do medicine or law though in the future

Depends on the level of DVS check being made i.e how thorough. basic it expires immediately otherwise 2 years after given.

Only people doing a DBS check will have a chance of knowing and so it depends on the level of check.

Basic No.

up to 2 years after given on a standard or enhanced then yes, but after then no it wont show.

DBS checks only for certain jobs. If Uni then only for certain courses, normally health or children or care related.

So unlikely anyone will know.
