blood pressure has gone up, damn it!!!!

I went to get my blood pressure checked and its higher than it should be for someone at 18. It was at 140/60 I think it was. The bloody nurse didnt eve tell me what it was, as I was about to leave I asked and she went o its higher than normal. I went how much by and she goes borderline:mad:. This is all ****ing thanks to uni. I am getting worried by the most smallest of things, e.g. what will happen if i leave my heater on all night. I cant belive this, feel down

Why was it high?

Had you just had a fag or a cup of coffee?
Had you just run there or come straight from the gym?
Do you find having your blood pressure taken stressful?
Do you just normally have a higher than average BP?
Or is there pathophysiology (which would be pretty bloody difficult for an 18 year-old tbh)

Standard stuff, don't worry you're not going to drop dead, go and get it checked again in a week or so (your chemist should be able to do it for you), if it' still high check it again the week after, if it's still high go back to see your GP.

Don't sweat it. One high reading does not mean you have high blood pressure.
Especially when nurses try to take it...

I thought they lower the results to compensate for stress:p: - OP, chill, go and have a beer...

 No I don't mean it like that, what I meant is that if the person is obviously distressed they'll take it into account... - obviously not so much as to make the whole thing pointless.

I was sure I had it anyway as in high bp cos im so angry and stressed 95% of the time. I am struggling to calm down.

I was told I had high blood pressure when it was checked for about the first time ever, but im not fussed. If your a happy healty person there is no reason to worry about it. Didnt even go back for a second check, didnt see the point, if its high its high and another test aint going to bring it to what "they" want.

Without being funny... from your reaction to the news it seems that maybe you slightly overreact to things and get easily stressed. And I doubt you're worried about things because you're at university; maybe you're easily stressed and since you're currently at uni you are naturally getting stressed about things in your immediate environment. I suspect that if you were posted in Iraq as a soldier or were working for an investment bank in London you would find other things to be stressed about. So maybe just try chilling out a bit in general? Tai chi, meditation, yoga, smoking - they could all help! :p:

Get it checked again after a week.

My blood pressure has always been far higher than that, the top reading varies between 160-175ish. The doctors know about it, they tested to see if there was an underlying reason behind it and there wasn't, I'm not stressed, its just how I am. Every now and then I go to hospital and in the future I might need to take tablets, but its not worth stressing about.
