There is quite a large population of chinese within Birmingham i think. I am half chinese myself actually. Our chinatown isnt so big, however i am only comparing it to that in toronto which is huge! :smile:

im a spanish born chinese. just wanted to know if there was a big number of chinese so i could make chinese friends and hopefully improve my mandarin (which is awful). at home i speak a chinese dialect and my parents never got to teach me speak mandarin 100% fluently, which leads to me having no chinese friends at all lol.

so that's why, i think it would be nice to make a couple of chinese friends at uni

so ure half chinese half english, thats really cool! :smile:

Theres definitely a chinese society at Birmingham Uni. There is also one at Birmingham City Uni (Formerly known as UCE).

Most i've met do speak mandarin and not cantonese.

So which dialect do you speak? Cantonese? Haka? Fukien? Chiu Chow?

My family all speak Chiu Chow and also the main dialects; mandarin/canto. I can understand most of it but can't talk! Weird eh? lol.

Yeah, My Dad is chinese and Mom is english... best of both worlds!
