Painful Lungs

Hi.

I've had what i thought was a cold now for about 2 months. It's always been just a cough which wouldn't go away.

However, i've been ill this week (just usual sickness, headache etc...) and my cough has got worse.

The worrying thing for me now is that when i cough, i get a really sharp pain through one of my lungs. Even more worrying for me is that i did'nt have my BCG jab a couple of years back. Could it be TB??

Advice please?

just looked it up on the internet and these are some of the symptoms for it

A cough that lasts for more than three weeks.
Loss of weight for no obvious reason
Fever and heavy night sweats.
A general and unusual sense of tiredness and being unwell
Loss of appetite

however it may not be that so dont worry, but go and see your doctor anyway. your not going to relax until you knw what it is, and the stress may make you feel worse.

when my sister had a cold before, she used to get a pain in her chest aswell when she coughed. it turned out that it was just a pulled muscle, from her coughing, that made it painful everytime she coughed.

there are other explanations so dont worry too much, but like i said go see a doctor

Could be bronchitis, pulled muscles, even a bruised/cracked rib from the force of your coughing.

I doubt it's TB tbh, it's pretty rare in this country. According to my lecturer, the BCG is useless unless administered to young children, and you don't see loads of teenagers with TB so I wouldn't worry about not having your jab- you're probably on the same standing as everyone else. Try not to worry! Though having said that, I convinced myself I had TB or pneumonia or some other horrible disease when I was coughing for 6 weeks, but I'd been in a lab with all the bacteria!

As mentionned above, your achey chest is probably from excessive coughing- that's what my doctor told me last year when I had the same thing. I'd imagine your other symptoms are just an accumulation of being run down for so long, but go to the doctor- it could be a chest infection that needs antibiotics. Eat well, sleep well to try and give your body a fighting chance of getting better too. Hope you feel better soon. x

I wouldn't worry unduly about a pain when you cough, it's more likely to be a muslo-skeletal problem, but if it gets significantly worse or is present at rest, see a doctor or go to A&E.

Because you have a persistant cough, I would reccomend that you make an appointment to see your GP, especially if it's got worse. Although, given what you say, it's not likely to be anything nasty.

A cough for 2 months that won't go away...
Ever considered that you might have asthma?

Don't worry about TB, the sharp pain is just a touch of pleuritis from the constant coughing.

Go see your GP.
