Why do inconfident people..

tend not to wear make or dress up? I mean if they think that they are ugly etc why don't they do something about it? You always see it the inconfident quiet kids wearing unfashionabable clothes, messy hair and no make up. Yet the people who think that they look nice tend to have nice hair and make up. (of course you get some inconfident gilrs plastered in make up etc but im talking in general.

Ive never understood it.

Presumably because they think it would simply look ridiculous and desperate. Usually untrue, but that's the problem I suppose.

Well, I think it's the other way around. People who don't care about their image (from wearing unfashionable clothes etc.) become inconfident in themselves -and then it becomes a virtuous circle.

Oh my god I always wonder that, its vile. Also, I wonder why some shops sell unbelievably small hotpants etc up to a size 16 when someone who was a size 10 would be on the verge of looking terrible in them...
Anyway, when I first started wearing make up when I was younger I was sooo scared that Id end up looking like a clown or something, I guess people who've never worn it could think the same and so just not bother with it?

Ahh okay well you see they are all quiet and wear boring clothes because one day they are going to have a revelation and get their lives in order/ turn into beautuful people - like Olivia Newton John in "Grease" when she became a super tart.

I was messy haired and un made up once but instead of becoming a tart I now reject all the people who once because of my looks didn't accept me - yes I have issues.

Make up is a waste of time and money. People with views that differ from mainstream society are always outsiders. being an outsider leads to poor confidence.

Make up is not a waste of time - it is a psychological barrier. When I put my make up on its like " right I mean business" no one can touch me once I have my warpaint on.

Perhaps they don't want to draw attention to themselves (either due to fear of being rejected or humiliated) so they wear boring old clothes and no make up to fade into the background? If you're looking stunning then it will turn heads, and shy people don't always like that!

My point exactly, difference of opinion. I dont want warpaint, i dont want to mask myself, and i certainly wouldnt want another barrier. ive always been a shy person.

I suppose in a way though everyone does try and make themselves look good, even if its not to the same level as others go to... I mean whether you wear make up/fashionable clothes or not, everyone still gives their hair a brush and puts on clean clothes before they go out, so I wouldnt say people who dont wear make up etc are outsiders

I'd say that people like this are the reason that people who aren't confident or perfect don't try and make an effort

Sometimes I am so shy its crazy. But if you dress like a tramp then in our society you simply are not going to command any respect. It is an isle which some people may take for not caring about yourself. Don't you ever say to yourself "Today I'm going to be pretty and the whole world is going to see!"?

i am a very confident person, and i tend to find myself, just wearing whateverrrr..........
but i suppose, there is a link with people not feeling confident about themselfes because of clothes and makeup, however, their fiancial system should be analysed, can they afford the latest trends of topshop!!

i guess. Selfconcious people dont wear make up so they don't feel anymore selfconcious, ussually if you feel that you look ugly plastering your face in stuff doesn't really make you feel anymore pretty
