In pain :(

Ok I really need some advice here :s-smilie:
On friday at around 3pm, I was watching the TV when I started to get really bad shooting pains by my left shoulder blade and at the back of my neck/upper back area. They dissapeared after about 3 hours and after taking painkillers. However yesterday at the same time, they came back again.. and no suprise, I have them again today. I've also developed pains in my left ribs which makes it painful to breathe at times.
The thing is, i'm going on holiday tommorow so i'm very rellucant to goto hospital and get it checked out :s-smilie: Especially as the symptoms fade after a few hours. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Is it that I may have just pulled muscles without realising, or could it be something more serious? Thanks

It might be a trapped nerve but that tends to be a continous pain, but i dont know if the pain of a trapped nerve is releived by paracetemol!
Hope you manage to work out what's wrong before you go on holiday!!

yeah that's exactly what everyone seems to think it is, but the mystery is that it isn't continuous. thanks for the support! (Y)

appendisitus?? (can't spell the word) but i don't see why it would effect the rest of your body.
It might be something like electrical nerve impulses or whatever they're called where you get on and off shooting pains through your nerves...
I think you should go see the Doctor or go to hospital personally, you don't want to go to a foreign country feeling like this...

Just go to the Doctor now. It's not a good idea waiting, for all you know it mgiht get worse the coming few days while you're away on holiday. Doesn't sound like a nice holiday to me. And who knows, maybe the Doctor can help yuu instantly and the pain will be over in a sec =)

Anyways good luck!

I'm no expert, but this sounds neurological, go see a neurologist now! Neurological problems are generally quite serious.
I had numbness in my fingers about two years ago, after a while, on the advice of a friend decided to bypass the NHS waiting list for Nerve Conduction Studies, and I paid to see a private neurologist, within days I had had an MRI scan and was on a ward diagnosed with Cervical Canal Stenosis, a LOT more serious that numb fingers.

If i can remember correctly Appendicitis is characterisied by stabbing pains that alternate from left and right abdomen every few hours. Don't think the pain goes as far as the shoulders and stuff.

Maybe a pulled muscle?

Hence i put i don't see what it would effect the rest of your body!
and your appendix are only on one side so surely there'd only be pain on one side of your body? I think it's the right side but don't hold me to that!

Go to hospital/doctors before you go on holiday - flying (if you are flying!) may make whatever it is worse. Not trying to panic you or anything, it could be nothing! But it's probably best you go to your own doctor or hospital in this country rather than getting stuck in a foreign hospital if you aren't sure of the language! Assuming you're going abroad of course! Hope you feel better soon!
