There are shared rooms at nearly all the Durham Colleges, including St Marys. Whether or not she *has* to share depends on the number of rooms. E.g. in Trevelyan College everyone shares at least 1 term. In Castle you don't have to share, but if you do you end up in the Castle itself.

I'll be at St.Mary's this year and i have to say i had my own doubts about it. As i can work it out - it is very likely that you have to share for at least 1 term at Mary's and they way they make it fair is by having a Room Ballot at the end of each term. It works on a points system.. if you shared in your first term i.e. you will get more points than someone that had their own room and so on. The people with more points get pulled out the hat first and they get to choose at that stage where they will be next term from the available rooms. Hence, if you share first term - you'll probably be ok the next.
Plus, on the up side.. sharing might not be so terrible - you'll have an instant friend to stand in all the freshers queues with and more clutter to share about... like cds etc! I've come round to the idea, and i'm starting to look forward to it. I really don't believe its worth worrying over too much.
