Uniform - Stockings / Holdups = Inappropriate?

Okay - quite simply is wearing stockings (or holdups) to a 6th form with uniform considered inappropriate?

What do you think?

This is what has been suggested to me by the head of 6th form today.

How would he/she know what you've been wearing though? No I don't reckon it's inappropriate as long as you're not flashing them to your classmates. And I wouldn't wear them on a day I had PE. I don't go to school anymore though.

See the topic in chat - but basically a photo of me in a group sat down at school has been put on the school web site newsletter - no one noticed you can quite clearly see my stocking top on one leg - my skirt must have ridden up without me noticing. Really embarrassed by it.

Head of 6th form has quietly suggested its my fault as its in appropriate wear for 6th form.

I empathise, but you've got to admit that's pretty funny. Can't they just take the picture down? Or is this all in the other thread lol.

But, no, in response to the original question- I don't think it's inappropriate because you're old enough. If it was a 13 year old on the other hand it would be wrong.

The photo is been taken down tomorrow - I went to the person who does it today but they are off ill - arrghh.

I agree - at 17 very nearly 18 I think I'm old enough to wear stockings really - I guess what they were getting at is with uniform as in blazer, blouse, tie, pleated skirt - but the skirt is knee length so really its not noticable.

Thats really made me mad!

So would he tell older ladies that when they went to school they were dressed inappropriately? Tights are only the more modern, lazy version of stockings and I don't see how they're inappropriate at all.

I agree with him that it's your fault for wearing it, but I don't find it innapropriate as it was obviously an accident.

Well whatever happens - I'm not changing what I do or wear.

Even more annoying is that my form tutur has said she does see any problem at all. So I'm getting to conflicting views from school about it.

People I know and freinds in 6th form has just laughed about it - think its funny - and think there is no issue. I do know that at 2 other girls also wear them as well sometimes - one of them all the time (not that I was looking but you do sometimes notice things!)

It seems that he just needs to be reminded that just because he finds a garment sexy doesn't mean that it's inappropriate. I wonder if he would take the same attitude if he had a spectacle fetish...?

God I feel like a prude but I can see his point. Personally I don't think holdups are too appropriate for school/sixth form but maybe I'm just old and out of touch.

They'd be inappropriate for sixth form if you was just wearing the stockings/holdups with a corset, sexy knickers and those bondage type boots.

But with your school uniform, so that the holdups aren't even on view.. no, I really don't see the problem with that! Especially since the majority of the time, you won't even be able to see them. Schools are so silly sometimes!

Apart from in fairly exceptional circumstances, no-one can tell it's stockings you're wearing and not tights. What's next, will he try to ban frilly knickers? @_@

Wearing them with a sixth form uniform is hardly the same as wearing them with a tiny black skirt and heels for the sexy secretary look (as a girl in my college did a few weeks ago - we have a formal dress code policy, she just looked ridiculous). I don't think it's particularly inappropriate, but remember being told we couldn't wear stockings in year 8 or 9 for that reason. I think at your age it could be relaxed a bit though. Do they say the same about knee high/over the knee socks, or just stockings? I could maybe see that stockings with suspenders and everything might be a bit ott (and maybe a bit distracting for the young male teaching staff!) but I'd just carry on wearing them if that's what you want, and make sure your skirt is pulled down a bit more in future.

Why would you want the hassle of wearing stockings everyday is what I want to know? It's all I can do to brush my hair in the morning :frown:

A good pair of stockings with a decent suspender belt can be so much more comfortable than a pair of standard tights. For this reason, I haven't worn a pair of tights for years - it's always been hold-ups or stockings.

If they're not normally visible, just carry on wearing them and be more careful in future. They're hardly going to strip search you every day to make sure you're not wearing them...
