JEWS - why do people still hate them?

Well, after an incident today i'm baffled. Surely, such animosity against them is uncalled for (getting called names and threatening violence). Why do they, and even chinese people get hated so much. I live in the north east and the BNP in my area was 4th place in the 2005 general election, surely people know that they are voting for a party that idolises the Strasser brothers and promote fascism - something that a past generation has so respectfully fought against and died against. Haven't people learnt anything from The Holocaust? Why do they still hate so avidly?

I think its because Jews are not strictly a race. The only thing that makes them Jewish is their religion. However, when people show a dislike towards being Jewish, they are accused of being racist or anti-sematic.

The beliefs of Jews themselves is prejudices towards non-jews, they belive they are 'the choosen people' descendents of the Israelites, which to non-jews and especially other faiths can be very annoying. Then theres what has happened with the Israel Palestine conflict, they have attracted a huge amount of dislike from Muslems. Despite the bad things which have been commited by Jewish people, the holocaust (which happened so long ago) is constantly bought up as a reminder that we should should sympathise them and even not challenge them.

I think this is what goes through peoples heads.

What was the incident today, out of interest?

On the question you ask - if we (Jews) knew that we'd have done something about it. It seems that no matter what happens Jews are hated. This might well have to do with Jews being global. By this I mean that Jews are all over the world and act in very different ways. Yet at the same time, they are generally bundled together into one homogenous group. Thus all Jews are blamed for the acts of some. We see this today with anti-Semitism that stems from Israel. The acts of some Israelis who are Jews are blamed on all Jews.

The Jewish belief in their being a "chosen people" does not in any way discriminate against non-Jews. This is because the Jewish faith as practised does not show this distinction. The distinction is about God's relationship with them but has no bearing on their relationship with others in the world today. This is only a cause of anti-Semitism if people are ignorant. And clearly the people spreading this concept are not themselves ignorant and so are using it to spread anti-Semitism that stems from somewhere else.

Some people equal Jew with Israeli

And many people (for good reason) dislike Israel's policies regarding palestine, etc.
It was just jeering but no physical violence. I vaguely know those people but they're a good bunch of hard working and honest individuals. It could be that they are quite successful?

I think its also with the fact that most jews are at places where theres alot of money. jews are very successful and its this success that some british people envy them for. This envy turns to hate which is fueling the BNP with racism. I dont know many jews but up in Manchester a few of my mates parents vote BNP for this reason. Theres only a few jews in the UK, yet so much hate. The jewish stereotype is a high paying lawyer etc whilst for asians its shopkeeper and blacks its the lower class work. People who hate the jews feel that they are immigrants who are taking all high paying jobs white people deserve when really its people who worked hard and earnt the right to the job

Actually the Jewish people ARE officially a race.
Anti-semitism is considered a racist attack. Jews and Sikhs are the two religions which are also considered races.
And a lot of Jews identify with being Jewish as being their race, not their religion.

WRT Jewish prejudice... that's a ridiculous answer. You can convert to Judaism, just as you can convert to other religions. Also, lots of religious believers think that people of other/no religion will go straight to hell etc. That is not just a Jewish thing.

And religious and ethnic disagreement/conflict happens all over the world, without being primarily responsible for hatered towards one race/religion. Israel/Palestine rather feeds anti-semitism rather than causes it.

There are many countries a hell of a lot worse than Israel in the world, so why is Israel singled out for criticism? I think it's more like people equalling Israeli with Jew than the other way around.

Jealousy could be a factor in anti-Semitism. Problem is that there is anti-Semitism even in places where Jews are not particularly wealthy.

I think superficial anti-semitism does not travel so deep as to be concerned with politics. It's merely joking at the expense of others in the same way the Irish or ginger people seem to be targeted. Unfortunately an unpleasant stereotype has built up over time which it seems to be easy and effective to make fun of.

That is so ignorant as to be insulting. When a Jew gets beaten up in the street for being Jewish it isn't a stereotype that people are joking over.

Im not in anyway saying hating jews is right or justifying it, I belive it is wrong.

But I think it ridiculous that being Jewish is a race, what if I wanted take up Judaism, would I become part of the Jewish race? Even with people who are Sikh, a lot of them will identfy their race as being Indian and not sikh.
and also the 9/11 conspiracy theory

Err because Israel's allowed to do whatever it wants, and **** all happens to it consequences wise?
Hating Jews?

I'd say a mixture of the following reasons:

-Jewish culture is very competetive, so that they perform well. They are generally rich and successful, although the difference in wealth is enormous.
-Jews prefer Jews. If youre a Jew, you usually prefer it if your kid marries a jew and when you have to hire someone out of two identical people, you choose the Jew (this stops very quickly if there is a difference in ability though, prob all cultures do this)
-People are probably often jealous of all the rich jews (was the reason for anti-semitism for Hitler)
-People don't like having consessions for stuff someone else did 60 years ago. The only reason for all the conflict in the middle east is that we felt guilty and had to give the jews land in return. It is brought up any time they get an advantage from it, people don't like that.
-Israel vs Palastine, Jews came later and Jews are way stronger and get all the foreign aid (billions of USD, while Africa starves), and people usually like the underdog (not like the Palastinians have a serious chance with brute force against them), They are allowed to have nukes while Iran doesn't, etc
-We used to, and its a little stuck in our civilization, jokes about jews, etc
-Jews believe they are better than everyone else, they are the god protected people, they should have Israel, they were picked out, they ... Other people dont like that
-For the hard-core Christians, they killed Christ
