It's one of the safest cities in the UK. The student area of near QUB is incredibly diverse in particular. You've nothing to worry about. I had classmates from India, Malaysia, Mexico, USA, Pakistan, Nigeria, Irish Republic, and the rest of the UK. All of them said Belfast was one of the friendliest places they had ever been. I guarantee after a few weeks you'll wonder what you were worried about.
