Dissertation on Human Rights law

Hi everyone,

I'm supposed to be submitting my dissertation topic in 2 weeks time. I'm thinking of doing mine on a cross between human rights law and medical law (as those are two courses that I've studied this year and absolutely loved).

I'm so far leaning towards human/organ trafficking, but I was wondering if anyone had any hot topics I should consider? Especially current HR issues. Would be lovely to hear some suggestions!

Thank you :h:

An idea is to look at is the use of executed prisoners in china as organ donors. After, execution, their organs are commercialised and made available to foreign recipients. Although this resembles trafficking of body organs, there are few legislations opposing it. The focus of the paper will be on the link between the judicial system and the chinese medical/transplant system. You'll examine issues like the human rights implications of the acts, human rights reform, internal reform of china's medical/transplant system etc.

There are scant materials that touch on the trafficking and commercialisation of human tissues and cells. This is an ever expanding issue and there is a knowledge gap with respect to this theme.

Furthermore, consider the question: should everyone involved in the trafficking transplantation process face criminal responsibility? There is a huge debate regarding this. Are the buyers of human organs in breach of human rights and should they be punished like those that sell these organs? A topic can be built around this? Are transport surgeons in breach of regulations when working on trafficked organs?

Finally, you can engage in a comparative analysis of human rights situation and medical law situation in organ exporting countries. For example, China, India, USA, Brazil, Peru are known as core organ exporting countries. You can look at the variations and similarities between the countries.
