Ok, A-level ICT, we are expected to compare two oppearating systems, i suggest Ubuntu(Linux), i get laughed at by the whole class becuae it's an opperating system nobody has heard of and is free- my own teacher doesnt know what it is and takes the pee. I'm now considered a weirdo for knowing that...

Who cares about that? If people laugh at you because of your own ignorance you've just got to say and then they'll feel stupid - 'what about Ubuntu(Linux)?' ... *teacher looks confused, class laugh.* ... 'err, it's free - you know that little penguin on the internet. Windows isn't the only OP you know' - or something. I don't know, that doesn't sound like a good example to be annoyed with people if they're just being stupid on their own account.

In an English we did acting out of scenes from 'Educating Rita' a few times in GCSE, I never liked drama etc and have never been any good at it - so didn't look forwards to doing a scene, playing Frank. It said *laughs*, so I did a laugh - and then eeeeeveryone in the class laughed at me and I felt like a plumb, as it was me they were directly laughing at and not a suggestion I'd made and known I was right etc. I didn't know what exactly, but someone said my laugh sounded really perverted? I don't know, I didn't really want to go on after that.. But hadto finish hmm.. And I didn't hold a grudge or anything.

Stop saying "taking the pee," for a start.

I think its a way of getting around the swear filter :p:

Everyone takes the piss out of me - I don't mind! There always needs to be a butt in the class so consider yourself proud of taking that position. Seriously, in school I would say normal things which would make people laugh for no reason - I loved the attention!

Reply 5

Perhaps it's because you get so het up about it they do it? I mean, you said without resorting to violence! It's obvious it gets you riled up. Try not to bother about it.

Reply 6

I think it does get by the swear filter and it isn't the most brilliant example but thats what happened today for people to take the rip.

Everyone takes the piss out of everyone else, substantially. It's just normal. I know it's not nice, but it's not intended maliciously. Don't take it badly and if they take the piss out of you, either accept it (if it's a fair comment) or defend yourself (if it's not), but always keeping the conversation light-hearted and retaining your ability to laugh at yourself (just as others will laugh at you, and you will laugh at them).

take the rip.

Don't say that either. :s-smilie:

Well if its not just friendly banter, then just take the piss out of them back. People wont think your such an easy target if you just give them **** back!

Right, this is really the only worthwhile advice so far, lol.

very true.

OP grow a thicker skin, people get the piss taken out of them, thats what happenes with life. Give it right back adn laugh about it

Reply 13

Show them that you can make fun out of yourself (and them) or esle things will get worse. If someone goes to far then kick off but if not just laugh along with it.

Reply 14

The piss-taking you describe is nothing. Nothing. If people laugh at you to disguise their own ignorance, just feel superior. Otherwise, just ignore it and get on with life. It's not like they're throwing rocks at you or anything. And it is to an extent inevitable.

People take the "pee" out of weak targets. Therefore you have to appear stronger. Take the piss outta them when they do it to you. Just generally stop looking like the obvious victim.

Also i'm assuming you're doing GCSE ICT if your teacher hasn't heard of linux. Therefore none of your peers will have most likely. Which means that you showing that you know more about something thats dubbed "geeky" makes you a "geek" and therefore a victim. If you don't say anything you won't get picked on basically.

That's how school works, you have to get used to it.

No, this is A-level ICT at the best sixth form in Derby...tragic isn't?
